Hey guys another question from the friendly neighborhood noobie :D
Is there a way to compact the size of the carrier label in a 2.2 rom similar to the way you can select the option in Aosp? I don't need a selection option just wondering how or where I can compact the size of it.

In uot check the box for carrier and make it fully transparent. It will be gone.

It is there yes but you can put anything you want over it. I always put what ROM I am on in the place of the carrier. Like right now instead of Virgin Mobile it says BUMBLEBEE 2.4 and that you can change font and size. Sooo I guess you could write Virgin Mobile and change the size that way... I am slow.

It's cool thanks for the input. I was more looking for a way, like in CM7, where you have an option to compact the carrier bar so its basically one small line of text instead of a big fat ugly bar with a big text line in it.

The bar itself... Sorry, I misunderstood. I have no idea how you would change the size of the whole bar other than actually tweaking the PNG's inside the framework res.

The way aospCM7 does it is by removing the header altogether, then using the xml for the "ongoing" etc line to add the carrier.

Takes changes to framework-res and SystemUI

What you can try is on UOT only select Header and manually type in "Virgin Mobile" and adjust the font size to your liking, also aligning the text to the right just like the aospCMod. Then just put blank spaces in your eri.xml file where it says carrier and and just place it in /data/. This way when carrier info in populated by the phone it's just blank. Here is the modified eri.xml. Remember to nand backup before trying all of this.

Here's a screenshot to demonstrate on UOT:
