Hi,
Was hoping someone might have some idea about my problem.
Galaxy S4 Mini.
Works perfectly in every way..... but only for about 3 or 4 minutes then it completely shuts down and will not turn on again, even when plugged in.
It is not a faulty battery because I have four, always fully charged.
The only way it will turn on again is by leaving it for a good few hours then putting battery back in and it starts, loads everything up and is good to go.... for a few minutes then just goes dead again.
I obviously don't use it because of this but I am on a mission to find out why it does it!
Thanks to anyone who is clever:)

Have you done a factory reset? It would also be a good idea to boot into Recovery Mode, leave it there for 3 or 4 minutes and see if it turns off again. If it does, then it has nothing to do with the OS and everything to do with the hardware.

So, what to do?

If it's the OS, a factory reset should take care of things. If it doesn't, take it to a Samsung Service Center to get it re-flashed.

If it's the hardware, my guess is that the temp trigger is being tripped. Either the sensor is faulty or the cooling system is not working (or the processor is just getting too hot). The sensor, well, senses the high temp (or if it's faulty, what it thinks it's a high temp) and then shuts everything off to prevent further damage to the phone. Another possibility is that the battery contacts are loose to the point that a little heat expands the metal and causes them to disconnect... when there is no more current flowing, it cools down, and makes contact again, but this is a VERY remote possibility.

If it is the battery not making good contact, putting a spacer like paper on the far side of the battery could help

Hi,
Thanks for the expert reply.
I have been down the reset route and managed to update settings etc to no avail.
The second part of your reply sounds much more promising, temperature trigger or faulty sensor trigger, if only there were a part I could replace to fix it, or is there?
If life were so simple!
Thanks again.

Well, there is... if you knew what it was. I'm not sure how to test the sensor in this particular phone (but there MIGHT be an online guide somewhere out there), and once you know which component is fried, you could attempt to replace it.

But at this point, if you've confirmed that it shuts down even in Recovery Mode, I think your best bet would be to take it to a Service Center.
