i did unlock bootloader but still i am not rooted. the program runs and every thing and i get a fash message says you are rooted but when i look at the phone it is not!

after you unlocked the bootloader, you need to flash clockwork mod which will then allow you to install super user. Have you done either of these yet?

The instructions in the link I posted were fairly simple, you just need to find the thread about how to flash cwm to your device.

Here's the cwm install instructions:
Unofficial ClockworkMod Recovery 5.0.2.7 for Evo Design/Hero S - SDX-Developers Forum

if you can't get it to install cwm in the boot loader, which was my problem, then you'll have to unzip the PH44IMG.zip and fast boot flash the boot.img to your device. Once you have that flashed, reboot into recovery and install superuser. BUT, if you are using this ROM (New Boost ICS leak 1.10.653.2 Updated - SDX-Developers Forum) you won't have to install superuser, because it is included in the ROM zip...

I keep on getting the "waiting for device error" when I run the fastboot prompt, what's the deal?

Not sure, but read these:

http://androidforums.com/rezound-all-things-root/509695-root-stuck-waiting-device.html

and here's a step by step guide...I guess you would need to start at step 2 since you have already unlocked the boot loader.

I didn't come across the waiting for device message, and I really have no idea how to answer that question other than try searching google.

Now I do. I wasn't aware of the sequence of rooting and which file dose what. Thank you for the help. Now I am rooted but struggling with installing ROM

still getting the waiting for device error, hboot 1.26

I did have that problem too. Make sure that the hboot drivers are installed and your device is showing in the pc device manager, I had to reinstall the drivers few times. Also rename the recovery file to just recovery.img and the one worked for me is the recovery clockwork 5.0.2.2 supersonic.

Re: Completely New to Rooting. [ 2.12.651.8]ota [in need of help

I installed superuser app. Then removed it I didn't understand what it does. I installed rom manager and backed up the stock and partitioned my sd card. Now I have tried installing ROM from within rom manager and when the device reboots it get stuck on the HTC screen and I end up pulling the battery out.

I don't think we will get ics for a while so big might try again but I got it and decided to relock the device.

allright. i got it. ROM is installed and working beautifully. after installing ROM in cwm (according to other posts) i had to flash the boot.img file separately (according to other posts) by placing it in a zipped folder i named PH441.img(unless you downloaded it as such) and then put it on my sd card after removing the ROM zip file from the same sd card by way of enabling storage from within recovery mode. in order to go back to hboot i did a shut down and start with vol. down and power button(the only way i knew how) when hboot picks up the zipped PH441 file it is gonna ask you if you wanna install it(according to other posts i have read). after install you gonna reboot the system and the new ROM should load.
