Completely random battery drain even after buying a new one

Hi there,

My Xperia Arc S has a really, really weird battery draining issue. The battery drains in 10 hours on standby. It seems completely random and happens as long as the battery is in the phone (even when it's off). I was rooted and had a custom rom and kernel but I've switched back to the stock firmware and guess what: the battery still drains randomly. I also bought a new battery with twice the capacity of the old one but nothing changed. I've googled around but couldn't find someone with the same problem.

When you say that it drains even when the phone is off, do you mean when the phone is on standby or when it's completely powered down? If on standby, it sounds like there's some process that's remaining active and draining battery. Try Wake Lock Detector, which can tell you what app might be waking the device up to perform some process. Make sure you wait about a day after installing it, to give it some time to collect data.

this is most likely not the case since I've done a system wipe and had the same problem with no apps installed, but I'll give it a try.

Sometimes battery drain can be from system apps. For example, Google Maps has a setting for Location Reporting, which is turned on by default, and which causes partial wake locks very frequently throughout the day. This impacts battery life moderately, although usually not severely.
