Composing Email Horizontally

When I start typing a recipient name in the vertical position, a list of recipients and their addresses shows, then I can select one.

When I start typing a recipient name in the horizontal position, I instead get "bubbles" with matching recipient names, and no email address is showing. I don't like this.

Is there a setting that change somewhere to address this?
