God I hate recommending toolkits and 1-clicks...but have you tried Wug's toolkit? AFAIK it should handle your drivers and everything for you. Just want to get your ish going here.

No you can't expect good things if you go to verizon with it in its current condition. Whatever you did is fixable, and given you did the factory reset and are still having the problem it really has to be a computer/driver issue..

I initially set up drivers through Wug's toolkit when I planned to use it to revert to stock. I just tried to use it again to configure the drivers... sadly, still no dice. The nexus and my laptop are just not talking to one another.

I'm going to call it a night and hopefully a stroke of genius will hit me in my sleep. Or, more like it, someone with the answer will see this post and save me.

Have you tried deleting all of the drivers associated with it, then reinstalling them via Wugs? Have you tried the Gnex Toolkit?

You do mention multiple PC's and multiple cords, but to clarify-

Make sure you are using a data USB cable and not a charge cable. Many of the cheaper cables (especially the retractable ones) are charge only. If you are using the one that came in the box, you should be good.

Make sure you are not using a front USB on your computer. Plug into a rear, motherboard connected, port. I am pulling that from my ODIN experience, but do it just to remove the possibility.

Using the latest toolkit, if you connect USB and boot to fastmode, and hit refresh on the toolkit, can you see the device ID at the top? If so, try flashing Recovery from the toolkit (the touch version seems to work better, no multiple button presses making it like shooting skeet to get what you want).

If the device ID does not show, then it certainly seems driver related on your PC. Not sure what to say there as it seems you have done all the testing already. I would try a reset, as suggested before... but if you cannot get into Recovery, your options are limited.

Maybe try flashing the Recovery from ROM manager if all else fails?

EDIT- Oh, and reboot your PC if you haven't. If your USB on your computer got pissed off, it might need the MS fix.

The USB cables I've been using are the same ones I've used with this phone in the past. The laptop is the same as well. That said, I've also tried it on a desktop (front and rear USB) with the same results. Toolkit does not recognize the device either; in both regular and fastboot modes.

A freind of mine is coming by later with some more USB cables and his MAC. Hopefully my bad luck will only be windows related.

So as far as this root thing goes, I still have the superuser icon, and can still perform certain functions in apps like root explorer/astro (copy, move, delete, rename files), but apps such as ota rootkeeper, android root toolkit, and root check are all saying that its gone. Also, when I clicked on the superuser icon and tried to update su binary, it fails when trying to gain root access.

So... I assume this is why CwM wont flash recovery... and why I cant boot into stock recovery from fastboot. So my question now is: does anyone know a way I can root my nexus without plugging it into a computer?

If I can root, then I can recover, then I can flash.

So now I'm trying to mount the phone onto a friends MACbook w/ android SDK and yet another micro USB cable... No dice so far.

It's becoming more and more obvious that this is not a driver problem as was initially thought. Might be the ROM something screwed up with its MTP functionality.

Still looking for a way to root without connecting to a computer.

So, thinking that my USB issue has a good chance of being a hardware problem - I took it to verizon to see if they would fix it... and now they are sending me a new nexus! Thank you big red!

Did you download the Samsung device drivers from the samsung website??
