Confirmed: Verizon Nexus One Cancelled

Just got back from a Verizon store were a rep told me the Nexus One may be out by the end of the month and be sold in-store. What do you guys think? BS?

Where Google is the controlling entity over the phone from design and concept, to production, to price tag, to having its own ETF if you buy it subsidized, I highly doubt verizon will be carrying the phone in its stores. Not to mention the fact that any support on the phone not having to do directly with the network is handled by google.

I call BS on carrying the nexus in stores. As far as the date, could we consider the end of the month spring? I guess only time will tell.

I agree with you... I'm thinking this will be a purchase-from-google-direct kinda deal.

So how about this strategy, in order to indirectly subsidize the phone. Since my NE2 is up, what if I got a subsidized Droid, used it for a couple months until the N1 comes out, then sell the Droid and buy a N1? Could also be done with any other smartphone (may look at the Tour 2 which should be available any time now).

I figure I should be able to flip it for $250-300 if in good shape, then pick up the N1 for whatever it's going for, unless I'm particularly happy with the Droid.

Sound logic?

Thing is, if you buy the nexus 1 subsidized you tack on an additional ETF fee imposed by Google on top of the one imposed by Verizon. Last I checked Verizon's ETF fee was raised to 300$ for smart phones. Couple that with the Google ETF of 300$ and you have yourself a 600$ mess if you decide you want something else.

mobilemedic20, I would say your logic is very sound. I will never buy a subsidized phone again! Good luck with your decision. :)

I was just reading on a forum saw a statement that an HTC rep said "however the Nexus One will be able to work on Verizon in Spring 2010". After talking with a Verizon rep that said "If we get the Nexus One the rumor is in the Spring so that could be March could be May". I think the key word is "if".

I am thinking that Verizon is not getting the phone but the a Nexus One will become available that will work on their network.

I am very excited and hope that is the case. I would rather buy a Nexus One from Google and set it up on Verizon, instead of going through Verizon to get a google phone.

I currently have a BB 9550 and the day the Nexus One comes available I will buy it and transfer my number and use my Storm 2 as a paperweight.

The Storm is driving me nuts; knowing that all these great devices are out and I have to settle for the Storm kills me.
My Storm2 drove me nuts also, so I sold it for far below it's value and bought a Droid Eris as a hold over for the N1. Outside of what seems to be poor battery life, I actually like the Droid Eris. I will still get a N1 when it drops, but I am moderately satisfied at the moment. I can wait a few months.

Walis, i couldn't agree with you more. I am doing the exact same thing. I am intrigued by the Incredible, but will probably get the nexus. The cool thing is that since the nexus came out for t-mobile first, hopefully the bugs will all be fixed by the time it hits for verizon. I am currently saving money for the upgrade.

Well, based on Google's release of the Nexus One so far, I wouldn't expect otherwise. I'd think that Google will work out a deal with Verizon to provide service for a Nexus One that Google will sell (and for which Verizon will not need to support the hardware - only service issues.) Of course I could be wrong, but I thought that one of Google's stated goals of the Nexus brand was to remove the carrier stranglehold on handset sales in the US and make it more of a bring-your-own handset model.

I just sold my storm 2 and im buying a Moto Droid it was the worst my daughters nintendo dsi browser was faster really i compared.

maybe it will be a variation of this... (this particular one is GSM only - per the specs...)

Put that phone next to Nexus and there is no chance I would buy the N1... Unless your really Anti-Sense UI, then this phone trumps Nexus pretty much in every category.

also, if this is going to be verizons nexus then we could see it in the store and not have to order it online. I would much rather go to a store then order a phone online.

I still want the Nexus One. No more waiting for Verizon to approve updates. I have never held a Nexus One in my hand and will not hesitate purchasing one online as soon as it becomes available for Verizon's network.
