Confirmed: Verizon Nexus One Cancelled

I have emailed Google on their support site and I will let you know as I get a response....

I am off to pre-order this afternoon now. Wow, that made my decision a whole lot easier. Well, it was nice posting in this forum while it lasted. ;)

That's all she wrote - Gizmodo already got confirmation that there won't be a verizon N1. If you think you can get a more legit answer than Gizmodo, have at it! I'll be checking back on my Incredible.

The same Gizmodo that is now under investigation by police by illegally purchasing the iPhone prototype?

Yeah, that one.

They just lost some credibility in my book.

How did they illegally purchase a phone?
First I hear of this.

Under a California law dating back to 1872, any person who finds lost property and knows who the owner is likely to be but "appropriates such property to his own use" is guilty of theft. If the value of the property exceeds $400, more serious charges of grand theft can be filed. In addition, a second state law says that any person who knowingly receives property that has been obtained illegally can be imprisoned for up to one year.

All right there.

Its pretty cut and dry. They knew they purchased something that wasn't that guys to sell. That guy should also be thrown in jail for theft. He out and out stole it, and Gizmodo bought stolen goods.

Let alone all the trade secrets that got bought and sold.

Sadly it looks like I maybe waiting for the EVO...seems like a big waste of time! However I have learn so much about the Android system, that I no longer want to get an iPhone regardless of what hardware they will be updating.

I like many other have been waiting for the Verizon N1 since January. And like Chuck I purchased a few accessories (few cases and a screen protector) to go along with my expecting purchase.

It's an odd feeling of closure, at least we now know a definitive answer.

Tatter, I agree I think my focus is going to turn to the Evo. Pretty damn impressive piece of hardware in my opinion, (even though I'd rather have stock android over Sense.) It also has that "wow" factor the N1 lost shortly after its release.

just placed my Incredible order - at least I'll have 30 days to see if anything cooler comes out - or if I can learn to live with Sense

Wow, that sucks. I thought the point of the N1 was that it was supposed to be on every carrier? Now they recommend buying the Incredible, which albeit a great phone is running a very different type of experience than the Nexus One would be. I think that Google is just disappointed in their Nexus One sales and they're pulling the plug on it. It's what you get when you launch on a third-rate carrier like T-mobile before anyone else.

They should have partnered with Verizon, had it in stores, and marketed it like VZW did with the Droid. It would have killed in sales.

From a post on Phandroid:

Google was the first to step up with a response regarding our concerns: the Nexus One will no longer be headed to Verizon Wireless.

We won’t be selling a Nexus One with Verizon, and this is a reflection of the amazing innovation happening across the open Android ecosystem. Verizon Wireless customers who want an Android phone with the power of the Nexus One can get the Droid Incredible by HTC, which can be pre-ordered now and which will be available in Verizon Wireless stores on Thursday, April 29th.

It doesn't surprise me that the nexus one on verizon is getting canceled.. the incredible seems like a better option anyway.. I guess it is what it is.

I am very saddened by the entire process.....I too have taken the plunge and have just ordered my Incredible and case.......... :(

Too all that followed this thread I feel your pain

I think everyone here is in the same boat. Everyone is very disappointed. I just destroyed my phone in water so I was going to order the incredible today anyways because i need a phone. But I had been holding out for the N1 so I was going to return it once it came out. Now I find this out and order the Incredible is a sure deal. Very disappointed in google.
