Confused about model numbers

I bought my Note 10+ in January through Amazon Canada. It was described as an "international model," and the network frequencies listed seemed to cover what I need. It's running just fine on Koodo Mobile (sub-brand of Telus here in Canada).

The model number is SM-N9750, which seems to be a model specific to Taiwan and Hong Kong. Under Software information in Settings, I see Baseband version N9750ZSU2CTD1, which also is a Taiwan/Hong Kong version, according to sammobile. Under Service provider SW ver I have BRI/BRI,BRI/BRI, again referring to Taiwan.

So here I have this Taiwan/HK phone that somehow gets software updates -- through Koodo, through some other mechanism? I've received the Android 10 and the One UI 2.1 updates, everything's working fine, but I'm confused as to how.

Would it be possible to swap the firmware for the Koodo-specific version? I presume not, because the Koodo-specific phones are model SM-N975F. Is there any point in even thinking about this any more? Appreciate any insight!

Thanks -- Pauline

SM-N9750 looks to be Asian region , and the SM-N975f is true international version , no you can't flash over to that .

Thanks. So who is actually delivering updates to my phone? (It's obviously not locked to Koodo.) Is there any longterm downside to using this Asian region phone in Canada?

Your getting updates from Asian region when they are available, if they have the correct bands for Canada should be ok . Your welcome!

I know I'm at risk of overthinking this whole thing, but I'd like to understand a littie more, if I could. From what you've said, I will get SW updates based on the regional model of my phone (Asia, not Canada), and not based on my carrier (Koodo, in Canada). Is this the case only for unlocked phones? What's puzzling is that it seems like phones locked to various US carriers are getting their updates at slightly different times, as though the carrier is controlling the process. Does my carrier have any role in distributing updates to my unlocked phone?

Sorry to belabor the point, but I'd like to understand for future phone purchases.

US Samsung have 2 versions, carrier and unlocked.

Carrier version wait until carrier rolls out the software

Unlocked US version use to wait until all 4 carrier pass certificate then to unlocked version, but that's changed as carrier for unlocked roll it out now individually.

So your phone is not a Canada version so it will follow the rollout of Asian market updates regardless u have Canadian Sim it.
