Hey guys,

I traded my iphone for an s3 and i'm very confused (happy but confused) so the phone is on 4.1.1 and is currently rooted, I was wondering if I updated, would my phone be bricked or just get rid of the root? Is the update worth it? I don't really want the root because I havent gotten comfortable with android enough yet. Also could you guys recommend some apps/widgets etc for a newbie? Also my battery life has been terrible, it only lasted 2 hours today and facebook used 78% of it, I didn't even open facebook, I deleted it and it's a bit better, but now its only lasted about 3 hours and at 50%

Thanks for any help,

Eric

First, as an iPhone convert, you might find this very helpful: http://forums.androidcentral.com/general-help-how/137252-apple-users-guide-android.html

Now then, to your questions. You said you're rooted, but are you still on the stock ROM, or running a custom ROM? If you're on the stock ROM, letting the OTA run won't brick your phone. It might remove root, or it might fail completely and not update your phone at all.

As far as battery, give us a little information to work with. With the battery at 50% or less, do a screen capture of the Battery stats page, then tap the Screen line and do a capture of that, then go back to battery stats, tap on the graph, and do a screen capture. Post all three captures here. Also read this: http://forums.androidcentral.com/samsung-galaxy-s3/278622-battery-life-tips-myths.html Pay careful attention to the location and check-in settings in Maps.

As far as apps, look here: http://forums.androidcentral.com/member-favorites/

Am I correct in Stating that if he has a Custom Recovery (CWM or TWRP) it will not upgrade?

You are quite correct.
