Hi everyone!

I'm a newbie to this forum and a newbie when it comes to ALL things technical. I actually found you by accident when trying to do a search about my LG stylo 4.

Okay, so I have a LG Stylo 4 and I just got a Samsung Tab A for Christmas. I don't have the internet at home just have the Trac Phone (which I'm sure will be an issue but hey a girl can dream).

So, I have an LG stylo 4 phone and I play a lot of video games and would like to know how to connect it to my Samsung tablet. Also, how can I set up a hot spot. I guess I should also mention I am using Trac Phone.

I actually talked to a Trac Phone rep and they told me that the phone isn’t compatible with Hot Spot. I guess he means I can’t set up a hot spot but I wanted a second opinion.

Any advice or help will be greatly appreciated.

The rep would be correct, unfortunately. Hotspot functionality is not only device-dependent, but also carrier-dependent, so unless your plan includes hotspot data (which is usually allowed to a certain extent and then charged extra for additional data), you can't share your phone's mobile data with the tablet.

It is technically possible to root the phone (basically hacking the software into removing all safety guards and allowing the user, and pretty much any piece of software, to access and modify ANY parts of the phone's software... needless to say this isn't for everyone and it comes with inherent security risks, including possible permanent malfunction should you delete or modify something critical you shouldn't have touched) and force mobile hotspot functionality using additional hacked software. We tend to stay away from those discussions as we aren't geared towards that level of technical detail, but mostly because it's a legal gray area.

If your TracPhone account doesn't have hotspot functionality it won't work even if the phone has the option. If the phone doesn't have the feature available in network settings, there's not a lot you can do.

Hi SpookDroid and hallux!

Thanks for answering my question. To be honest I was asking the question for my brother, trying to be helpful sister.

He has a plan with Cricket not Trac Phone which is what I thought originally (should have made sure). I guess it doesn't make a difference since he doesn't have hotspot capability (without paying for it). I don't know why that isn't included with his Cricket plan as he is paying $55 a month! Oh well, I will give him the bad news...again.

Can you recommend phone carriers/plans that include hotspot or have cheap hotspot plans?

That really depends on expected data usage. Google Fi has a good price point if he doesn't use much data, though for the same price he's paying now he could use 3 GB a month. Mint is another to look at, but the real benefits there come when you pre-pay for service.

TMobile has pretty much the same price (or less) and way better benefits, hotspot included (not unlimited, but if he uses the tablet for video/music, most of that data is 'filtered' and doesn't count against the quota).

I don't know where you are from. In my state of Florida, I have MetroPCS now Metro owned by T Mobile. I am on the 60 dollar unlimited plan including 15 Gb of hotspot data each month at no extra charge. I use my Stylos 3 Plus phone as hotspot and works great with my Samsung Tab A (2016) 10.1 inch tablet. Also Amazon Prime membership is free with the plan and l watch movies and TV shows for free.
