Hi, I am new user to this technology and will need to teach my wife how to use it. If everything goes well tomorrow I will be picking up a new car. I have the ability to connect the tablet to the car via Bluetooth. Are there any reasons I would want to do that?
Thanks in advance for any information,
Mike

Good question, I know my wife can read without connecting it to anything and she can watch a movie without any connectivity. I don't have a smart phone. I don't know why I would want to connect to the car. After thinking about it I don't believe I would need to connect it to the car. I don't believe it will give me anything.
Thanks for making me think about things,
Mike

The only thing I can think of that you may use is streaming music or podcasts from the device to your radio....Its the only way I get my morning podcasts

It sounds like your getting into this without actually knowing what you want to do with your tablet. One of the primary uses for connecting your tablet to you dear radio is to stream your own audio from the tablet and have it play over the speakers in your car. The audio can be music, audio books, or even sound from a movie that she is watching while someone else is driving.

I would also assume that by being connected to the car's Bluetooth would allow you to make use of the car's microphone for the voice features of the tablet like Google Now ETC.

By registering you have begun a mind expanding Google adventure.

If you take the time to explore, a new world will unfold in front of you.

Having said that, my favorite use in my car is to connect my N10 headphone jack to my radio and use the best navigation system available today, Google maps/navigation, and the built in GPS to give me spoken turn by turn directions. The Android OS with multitasking allows me to play my favorite music while using navigation. It even turns the music volume down when announcing the next turn.

You are lucky. I just wish my car had built in Bluetooth so I didn't have to see extra cables!

Hopefully you didn't just waist dealer sticker price of $$$$$ for factory gps in your new car ;-(

So with no data plan or anything I can hook my nexus thru Bluetooth in car and still use my navigation?

The only thing you would/should need data for in that instance is for map or traffic updates so the nav system can reroute you if needed.

I have read in these forums you need a data connection for turn by turn navigation, but have not tested it myself. I know turn by turn workd when tethered toa phoen using an app like Foxfi

I tested it, just to see how well it works. Drove to a casino about 20 miles away. It gave turn by turn directions the whole way, no problems. Definitely no wifi (I don't have a smartphone).
