Keeps saying I'm remotely connected with my Note 9 but what does that mean? I'm not getting notifications and can't make calls with the watch.

connected remotely means you are connected to you phone through a shared wifi connection.

My phone isn't on WiFi though I'm using LTE. I had the phone and watch paired via BT and when I disconnected the BT it still said it was connected remotely?

That's correct behaviour. When it says "connected" that means the watch is directly connected to the phone via Bluetooth. When it says "remotely connected" that means the watch is able to talk with your phone via LTE or wifi. My LTE isn't working yet but on wifi you can't answer phone calls when connected in this fashion, you will get notifications only.

I just ran into this today. I have the BT version of the GW. I was 12 miles away from my watch when I opened the GW app on my phone. It said, "Remotely Connected to Watch". I have wifi enabled on the watch but my phone was not anywhere near my home's wifi. What can the two devices do "remotely connected" (BT version only)?

I have Bluetooth only. I can answer calls and send text on the watch as long as it is connected.

Yes, but my phone is saying it's connected remotely. Here is an answer I got from the reddit forum...

It is relevant the other way round. If your phone was at home and you were wearing your watch 12 miles away then you would continue to receive all the notifications from your phone. Assuming your watch was connected via WiFi or LTE obviously.

This way you can reply to messages that arrive on your phone through the watch (Watsapp, Hangouts, etc) without having them installed on the watch.

Now, it's highly unlikely I'd ever be without my phone but have my watch but I still don't understand how this would work if my watch wasn't on my wifi network (because I'm 12 miles away).

Remotely connected could also mean the watch is connected to your Samsung profile on the Samsung servers.

It works because your phone and watch are communicating over the Internet, so no direct connection is required. In principle you could be on the other side of the country and you'd still be getting notifications.

As for use cases, remote connection allows you to go jogging, hiking, etc. and still get your WhatsApp messages and emails. I use this feature every day for jogging and it's pretty great.

FWIW - I specifically looked yesterday while at the gym, my watch indicated "Stand alone". Had wifi and LTE on. Left phone (ON) at home.

That's happened to me a couple times on my old Gear S3. If you restart your watch it should connect remotely to your phone.

No need, all works as it should for me. I've seen it both ways.. indicating remotely connected and standalone when not directly connected to phone with bluetooth.

It's all good for me. Everything on watch works as I expect.
