Connecting my mobile phone with my samsung galaxy tablet via bluetooth.

My provider, O2 lets me connect my phone to my Samsung Galaxy Tan S2 so I can use the 22GBs of data from the phone to my tablet. I can connect Tablet and phone via Bluetooth tethering, but there are no passwords on either device.

So is the connection secure or can someone else use the data by connecting to my phone via Bluetooth?

But using a 'HotSpot' on a mobile phone is just asking to be hacked. It's like a walking coffee shop to anyone Kali Linux on their phone.

Connecting "via tethering" and connecting "via hotspot" are just two ways of saying the same thing. You tether by using hotspot software.

I'd sooner run an FTP server on the phone and an FTP client on the S2 if you want to copy files, or a VNC server on the phone and a VNC client on the S2 if you want to run the apps on the phone. And use a good password on whichever one you choose. (A 50 character random upper+lower case+numeric+punctuation password has enough entropy that it would take a supercomputer about a day to break it and, unless you're a government spy, no one is going to spend that much computer breaking your passwords. Kali Linux? That's like chopping down a forest with a plastic axe. It works on WEP, and if you really know what you're doing, you can use it on WPA2 Personal, unless you add another level of security - then even a WiFi connection is secure. I'd rather use Wireshark. But on a really good password? None of that eill do you much good. Generating 4,096 bit prime numbers isn't something you want to try on a laptop.)

I appreciate your input. You here so much about Bluetooth being hacked these days. But I'm not worried about someone looking through my phone or tablet as there's nothing sensitive on either of them. I'm more concerned about some ******** using my data from O2 for things like 'kiddie porn or surfing the dark web, something they don't want to do on their own wifi connection and having the authorities trace it back to me.

It's also the 'Sneaky' way people go about this sort of thing that makes me mad. That's why I wanted to make the connection a lot harder to get into from the outside. Not being able to set a really tough password worried me. Most people you get in coffee shops won't bother with the connection if they see it encrypted or see a really long line of dots in the password section.

Dismiss all the other posts. Now gone back to 'WiFi Hotspot' which I didn't pay much attention to before, but lets you use a password you can change if you wish. Located the 'Hotspot' on my Samsung tablet and connected using the password. All working fine in home and around the city (Lincoln, UK) without anyone looking suspicious or shifterly while using their phone. Well, no more than usual that is.

I did a speed test and it downloads at 9.57 and uploads at 9.93Mbps, I don't know if thats fast for this type of connection, (O2) but I connected with BBCIPlayer and started to watch a film and it seemed fine, no lag or anything.

It may not seem much, but at 74 I'm a bit concerned that I'm being used without my knowledge. Silly thought, but there you are.
