Hi, new to this forum so here goes worth my first post. I have recently bought a Note 10.1 and would like to watch some of the films on my hd tv that are on my Note, I am aware that you can buy various hd/av leads to do this or do it via wifi (my tv does not have wifi unfortunately) my tv does have a usb connector on it and I can watch films via a Flash drive.

My question is can I use the data cable and connect it straight to the TV and use it to watch the films, using the Note as an external drive ?

Thanks

Paul

I'm going to go ahead and say this is probably not possible, at least not unrooted (not sure it will even be possible rooted). When you connect a flash drive you are using the tv as a file browser, and loading videos from the drive. Likewise if you connect the tablet over usb you may be able to load videos stored in the correct format on your tablet. Although this just means that you are using the tablet as an external hard drive, not mirroring the tablet display.

The HDMI adapter from Samsung is interpreting the display output and mirroring the image over HDMI. Without the adapter your tablets display signal cannot be processed and mirrored to the input on your tv.

The only way this might be rectified in the future is if a tablet manufacturer includes a displaylink video converter integrated in the tablet, but you would still have to have a tv capable of receiving video over USB rather than loading files over USB.

I purchase my adapter from Adorama, and it was very quick to ship with free shipping included. Much cheaper than it is on Amazon.

I'm going to agree with milesschemas. And the reason why is this.
I'm not sure how the Note 10.1 mounts via USB but it's not like any other mass storage mode that I'm familiar with. I say that because I can plug it into my Pc just fine, however it doesn't work on my PS3. It's not recognized at all. So if the PS3 isn't able to read it then I doubt that any Smart TV will either.
Just my assumption.
