I want to transfers photos from Pixel XL running A10.

Connect phone to laptop via USA, Tap on File Transfer/Android Auto, Phone is visible in laptop file explorer, in file explorer Pixel and internal shared storage is visible,

at this point nothing else is visible - no pictures - no videos - no music - no documents are visible, but empty folders are visible.

From laptop if I right click on the Pixel it gives the option of importing all images, this works, except you can't see the individual files to make a choice.

Why can't I view the individual images, documents, songs etc from win10 file explorer that are on phone?

Just to be sure -- are the empty folders you looked at only ones that are in the /DCIM/Camera directory? Or did you also look in directories that you know for sure have files in them on the phone? I ask this because it's common for there to be multiple empty folders in the /DCIM/Camera directory based on certain image files -- I don't know for sure, but I think this may be a placeholder for images the user either edited or deleted in Google Photos, in case you decide to restore the photo again.

Umm, ok, I keep clicking on the main folders, for example Pictures, which went to two folders called thumbnails and screen shots, after clicking on those image appeared.
I guess what through me off was I expected the folders to be the same as on windows, where you can see images stacked, but none were like that. Also when the images opened they don't displayed like windows. They have to all be individually opened to see what they are, which is gruesome!
I guess they need to be loaded onto laptop so they can be handled normally?

Oh, OK I opened the dcim and what few images where there were visible....

Actual images that are locally saved to the phone should still just show up (either as thumbnails or as a file list, depending on how you have Windows File Explorer set up).

I set windows to show Icons and still didn't show the image in the pictures > .thumbnail folder, just tried it again. But oddly the pictures in DCIM do.

PS: I think its awesome your still here helping people! Thanks!

Keep in mind that the /Pictures directory isn't where the Camera app saves images to. /Pictures is where things like screenshots and saved images from certain apps like the Messages app go.

I find it fun to hover around the forums and help out where I can!
