Connecting USB drive says charging S8

Whenever I connect any usb stick to my galaxy s8 it just brings up a notification saying connected device charging. When I change it to transfer files it just resets and goes back to charging? Any help? It's driving me bonkers!!

You need an OTG adapter or cable to connect a USB stick to an Android device. (They're cheap, if you're willing to wait - there are a lot of them on eBay from China for 99 cents including shipping.)

Im assuming your using the USB dongle samsung provided. All adapters should work. if its giving you the option to switch to "Transfer". Maybe the dongle is bad. any electronics store has them for a couple bucks. ALSO if your USB is not FAT32 or NTFS it wont be able to read its files.
