Connection problem S4 to iMac

I can't connect my Galaxy S4 to my iMac. Android File Transfer app says it cant find an Android device - Kies the same. Have enabled Stay Awake and Debugging in Developer options. Have tried several connecting leads and have plugged directly into the back of the iMac. Any other ideas?

I plug my Galaxy 5 to my mac, the green icon shows up, and then tells me No Android device found, and to connect with USB cable. I have changed cables, ports, unplugged and replugged, restarted phone...nothing works.

Please help!
