connectivity issues

I just got the mini today- new sim card new everything. however, i cant recieve calls or texts and i cant call out because it rings and nothing happens. any texts i send out come back as failed to send. what is going on?

Quick guess is you havent registered to the network with the SIM yet.
Not sure of how to get it in the settings on the mini but on my nexus its settings - more - mobile networks- network operators - after its finished searching click your provider.
