Consider converting from a V10...

I'm considering converting to a Note 7 when it becomes available again. As much as I love my V10, I'm experiencing a few too many hardware frustrations. I can take a Note 7 over a V20 because Samsung isn't changing a good design into a bad one.

Just to be clear, I am not a fanboy of any brand. I would probably say that Samsung is my least favorite brand, but that is beside the point under the circumstances.

Are there any suggestions, advice or input that you have?

I should probably mention that I don't think that I will be using the fingerprint scanner. The placement looks to be the worst that I have ever seen. Is it also possible to enable the soft buttons or am I stuck with the hard button?

I moved from the V10 to the N7 and it's worth every penny. In fact, I've owned G2, G3, G4 and V10 since I last had a Samsung device.

I loved the back buttons but honestly after a few days I got adjusted. I also liked the FPS on the back but I've also adjusted to it being on the front. Now I can leave the phone laying down on a surface and still use FPS to login where as on the V10 I had to pick the phone up every time.

Yeah, I know that I will adjust. I still hate it. I have had more issues with side buttons than I care to remember. And I honestly don't remember the last time that I unlocked my phone while it is facing down. If it works for you, that's great. Rear fps/power is just easier for me. I point with my finger, not my thumb.

Regardless, adaptation is required. I don't choose devices based on what I like. I choose them based on how many things they blunder.

Is the pen any good?

I use the pen every single day and honestly don't know why I didn't switch sooner.

I've been gradually making a shift in how I get things done. For years I was always in my office with large screen monitor. Then GF moved in and had more need for the monitor so I switched to surface 3. Now I'm doing most things on my N7 and only bust out the surface when I really need it.

I'm sure I haven't even scratched the surface on what the S pen can do.

I have a Surface 3 also. I don't think that I can do everything from a phone. I'm willing to give it a shot, despite how much of it I don't actually like.

I remember the old styli and that is one thing that I like about the spen.

I'm going to hate going back to side buttons and a number of the design factors, but that is going to be pretty much every phone out there now.

I will keep looking into things. I plan on knowing what I am getting into

I just got my buddy the V10. He had the G4 and liked it but it faced the dreaded fail of death. He isn't a super phone nerd so I figure a V10 (got it for a really good price / brand new on Swappa) would work well for his needs.

I had a V10 and I loved it. My main gripe was that it's a 5.7 inch screen but the bottoms buttons eat up so much space, its' really like a 5.4 inch screen, maybe less. It's tough and rugged, I didn't feel I had to be extra careful with it as I have to be with the Note 7, the N7 seems so fragile. I still prefer Samsung over any other company.

The soft buttons or the hard buttons?

Can you even enable the soft buttons on the Note 7?

The soft buttons, or virtual navigation buttons. The V10 doesn't have hard buttons on the front bezels.

Not sure what you mean by enable the soft buttons on the Note 7. All buttons on the Note 7 are on the bottom bezel, giving you a full 5.7 inch screen.

Between V10 and Note 7, I kinda would pick the Note 5. The Note 7 was great for a few days after I factory reset it but's bit's become a tid more laggy again. Note 5 never gave me any problems. And with how easy my screen broke on this one when I had never broken a screen before, I'm disillusioned on the Note 7. The V20 didn't catch my attention and I don't like Apple.

I meant adding them to the screen. I will just have to adjust to the way Samsung wants to do things. I would rather have the soft buttons over the Samsung setup, but my options are overly limited...
