Considering a mate 10 pro

Nothing out there and I mean NOTHING that can replace spen. I have no interest in any other phone except Note 9. It's that simple.

I'm a bit like that as well, I ended up with 2 Note 8s so when the 9 comes out I will get one and subsidise the cost with one of the Note 8s and still have one as a back up, then do the same next year.
if money was no object I would try out loads more High End phones just for fun

Can you provide some examples? Was going to order one to try out tomorrow but if it's that 'messy' then I don't know...

I would look at the complaints over at XDA. The overly aggressive battery optimization is the biggest problem. It keeps some widgets from updating, I had it stop notifications for smartwatch, and even its own AOD has issues with turning off or failing to keep the right time. That is after allowing those apps to run in the background without battery optimization. I occasionally had problems waking the phone after it was not used for some period, especially if it was in my pocket phone or a dark place for a period of time.

The notifications do not work like other android phones. Many notifications cannot be expanded and the notification font is so big that the information spills outside the notification unless the font size is set to very small. I often change the dpi through developer options and the international version would reset the dpi every time I rebooted the phone. The display brightness setting would also reset after reboot. The US version was better about retaining the settings through reboot.

It did have good signal reception. Battery life was okay, but not as good as it should be with such a large battery. The screen was somewhat dim, so I had to have the setting pretty bright which would have had an impact on battery life. The camera seemed okay, but I did not use it much.

Overall, for the cost it was just too much work and not reliable enough to justify. There are other phones that are similar that do not have the same issues.

Haven't looked at the S9+, I am waiting for the Note9 :)
I am so happy with my Note8, and never want to leave the Note brand again, I had to skip the Note7 for obvious reasons and reallyissed having a Note device.

To me the S9+ is more like a Note8 without the SPen.

Nope. Not a good model to compare with Galaxy Note 8, maybe a plausible comparison with Samsung mid tier phones.

Tt's almost like sometimes the author's of these articles are out to lunch or playing the D**k Flute Solo for some of these brands to gain favor or sponsorship. Not true journalism in the ethical or technical since. How this could get past an editor, if they exist here, i don't know. It almost like this fake as login banner that they have at the top of the page,. possibly a google ad, I don't know, but not good.

The only challenge that I have with the Note 8 and previous Galaxy models is Samsung's attitude of we know best duplication of Google Standard Android applications like Contacts, Phone App, Calendar and the list goes one. So when there is a new innovation either as a service or feature with these existing and future apps, we have no way of installing or making Google's official Apps default. Frack you very much Samsung. Frack Bixby and the button it road in on.

Have you tried both to make that comment? I've owned both and so have quite a few others and you're way off the mark. Mate 10 Pro sits above the S8+ for me and almost equal overall to the Note 8 beating it in some areas and falling short in a few others like no wireless charging or headphone jack. But comparing it to a midrange Samsung is laughable and shows your complete lack of knowledge

But Samsung contacts, phone app, calender and browser are much better than Google's (I do have Pixel XL). Also you can definitely make google apps default. Yeah Bixby, I understand but you can always disable it.

Thanks! I ordered a pixel 2 ( non xl) also.. I think I might keep that for when I travel as it's much more compact.

The best of both worlds! Awesome! The smaller Pixel 2 is what I'm going to buy as well.

I'm considering anything BUT a Note 8 to replace my Note 3. I cannot stand the Edge display. And I'm not crazy about spending the equivalent of decent laptop money on a cell phone. I'm looking at the Mate 10, but also the Essential.

you might just see yourself hardly needing the laptop once you have the Note 8, however... it's two different types of devices so depending on your main needs of course.
they are coming down in price though so maybe look for a decent 2nd hand one
