I plan on getting a new phone. I have several friends with iPhones and I asked them what are the pros and cons of their phones. I have an iPod Touch so I have some familiarity with the Apple products. I do find them lacking in many ways. I find the Evo quite interesting and leaning toward its direction. But reading some of the post in this forum has me wondering if I should wait until it has had a thorough shakedown, maybe a month, or just pull the trigger and get it. Any opinions will be appreciated!

I switched on launch day from a BB Storm and am not looking back. I love my EVO. The first few days were rough learning my way around the Android OS, but I love this thing. You could always go to a Sprint store and play around with one.
I've had no problems with mine. In fact, it seems there are more significant issues with the iPhone 4 than with the EVO.
But with any Android phone, understand that a lot of the capabilities of the phone depend on your willingness to configure and customize the phone. Out of the box, the iPhone is a more complete solution, I think. But if you're willing to put some time and effort into an Android phone, it'll be far more capable and useful.

I have had an 8330, 9530, 9550, a Moto Droid and then back to the 9550 and the Evo out performs all of them! I liked the Storm 2 9550 and still have but you can do a lot with the Evo. From business to browsing, it does it without missing a beat. And the network is not that bad at all. I have had it for a few weeks now and I have only dropped a couple of calls. I used to drop calls with Verizon, too. I ported all my phones to Sprint and going to stick with Sprint for a while. Get one.
It's awesome. Does some light 3d gaming... maybe not what your ipod touch can do.
There are some great 3d titles that run great, like Raging Thunder II and Exzeus Arcade.

But those gameloft games... you're better off on the ipod touch unless gameloft decides to do something about them.

Different keyboards to try out if you don't like one... keyboards like Swype make me forget about every keyboard I've tried out before.
Apps like Ringdroid are everywhere in the market... just gotta look. For example, this app can take a song and make a ringtone out of it... ON YOUR PHONE, all on the go.
Camera has so many features as well... You can change from normal to sepia to grayscale to aqua, etc... you can change color balance and iso balance and saturation... and lots of stuff.
Browsing is unreal. The screeen real estate makes me forget that I could browse on my laptop instead. I just wish the screen was 16.7 million colors, not whatever color thing they have now... it's less, all I know. So unless you turned up brightness like me, you'll be thinking the screen is washed out. Since I turned up brightness to around 50%... I don't mind.
So featurewise, Android is PACKED.
Customization is also unparallelled. Icons, widgets, you name it... and you have 7 homescreens to put them on. Oh, and can't forget about live wallpapers.
Navigation around the OS is difficult at first... but very easy after a while. If you find going to settings difficult, do what I did... make a homescreen dedicated to widgets that go to battery settings, control wifi, control 3g, control brightness, etc.
Android is evolving. If you mind an okay gpu and the 30fps cap (hopefully gets fixed), you're fine.
Also, battery? Gets me through 6-8 hours of heavy usage... that includes lots of 3d games and browsing and whatnot.
Moderate usage goes for about 10 hours...
Light usage is like 16 hours + ...

You will always have horror stories on any Smartphone.
I have had mine now 7 days and only put it down while I slept. Since I had mine it froze once and qik app stopped once. No other issues. The reboot was my own fault as I loaded farmville a big flashplayer game. Well it worked but froze after about 1 minute. It only has flash lite so I just wanted to see.
I was a Blackberry addict and I am not looking back, excellent phone and excellent OS. Like the HTC add ons as well.

If u go to any phone thread u gonna find that iPhone 4, evo, or any smartphone has their flaws so ur not gonna find one perfect n coming of a pre which I loved WEBOS but man this phone is the ****...the browsing experience is like I don't even go in my laptop anymore n the video chat I can b at work n my daughters cal me fr their computer or my brother fr his EVO so I see them all the time now, u won't go wrong with the EVO
Most of the evo's flaws can be fixed with root access and some tinkering. The same can't be said for the iphone.

I would like to thank all those who responded to my post. I'm a firm believer in collective intelligence. I plan on going to best buy to take a look at an Evo. Is there any books I should be reading or websites I should go to to help me gain more knowledge about the Android operating system? I would feel really stupid owning an Evo without at least a basic working knowledge of its capabilities.

Gameloft games Do Work guys, I have UNO, Nova, Gangstar, and Lets Golf and they all play really well. I think you should find a Sprint store that has a real Evo to play with, that way you can see 1st hand how it is. Now if for Any reason you don't like the Evo you can return it for free in the 1st 30 days and only pay for your usage of mins, data, and text and you get all your money back for the Evo. Its really a great phone, can the iPhone do Video Ringtones? I just checked out it on my Evo and a video plays when someone calls like a ringtone would. The Evo along with any android phone has alot more stuff to make the phone Completely your phone. Themes, icons, live wallpapers, ringtones, Keyboard colors, and the list just goes on and on with how much you can change compared to any non-android phone.

To answer that, you drop your shorts and place your weiner across the body of an EVO (lengthwise). If it does not clearly exceed the far-reaches of the beast, you are probably into an iPod or maybe a "Rant". Blackberry is you barely touch plastic!
Don't be ashamed. We will not tease you. There are many people of your limative "slippage" and maybe you can qualify for one in a year or two.
