Have been having this irritating issue for a while and was wondering how to solve it.
I was able to solve the issue by following the below steps:
1) Goto Settings then tap on Notifications.
2) Search for WhatsApp- Click on it
3) Scroll down and look for Media Playback
4) Turn it Off and you are done
