Hello.

New to the forum so I hope I am posting in the correct place.

I changed to Google Pixel 8a last week (4/May) and I am finding two significant issues with WhatsApp. NB: these worked perfectly well on my previous Android phone.

Issue 1: when I swipe right on someone else's message, to reply directly to it, I can't attach a file to that reply. For example: I want to reply to someone's message by sending a GIF. If i make the following steps: Swipe right -> Attach GIF -> Send....then only the GIF gets sent, without the attached message i was replying to.

Issue 2: when I attempt to post a short video, I used to have the option top right to switch between Video and GIF. This option is no longer available, so i can only send in video format. This issue seems to only have appeared in the last 2 or 3 days.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I contacted WhatsApp directly, who replied saying: "we don't provide chat or email support for questions about using media".

Kind regards
Neil

Welcome to Android Central forums. I have to admit I do not use WhatsApp and know little of it, however I have a couple of suggestions.

Fist would be to check the release notes on the last update from WhatsApp. If all of these things worked just a few days ago it seems possible that these are the results of an update. Depending on how detailed their release notes are you may find something in there to indicate these changes. Another step in this direction would be to reach out to the developer themselves. WhatsApp is a very popular app around the world and with such popularity comes a lot of involvement and someone on the staff may be able to definitively say yes these are updates or no they are not, and then be able to help you troubleshoot the issue. No one is going to know the app better.

My second suggestion would be to find forums with some dedication to the app. I found this reddit page with all WhatsApp postings. This appears to be an active community and again no one knows WhatsApp better than users and if it is inconvenient for them they will post about it and question it. Many places, manufacturers, app developers, hobbyist, will host forums but I didn't find one from WhatsApp. I found their help page but it didn't appear very interactive but here is the link if you want to look for yourself.

Normally I would ask questions to try and steer users towards logical answers but given I would not be able to offer much in the way of advice I'm not sure it would be worth it. In cases like this my questions would be, When did the app last update? Is there a correlation between that and when you noticed this issue? Did you install any new apps just before or around the time you noticed these changes? Have you spoken with friends who have the app to compare if they are noticing the same issues? Other things you might do or try would be, clearing the app cache, uninstalling and reinstalling the app. Sometimes cache build up can cause functional issues with an app and clearing the cache or using a fresh install can clear them up.

Wish I could provide more help.

Best wishes.
