Constantly pressing volume keys

Hi all,
Loving my M8 but the one gripe I have is that when I'm holding the phone or pick up the phone I am constantly pressing the volume keys. I have small hands and when holding phone in right hand the natural placement for my thumb is right on top of these keys.
Embarrassing moment when in a meeting at work. Phone was in silent mode but didn't realise I had pressed the volume rockers that had then taken it out of silent and into normal mode. Notifications came in and had to apologise during meeting. I don't have the standard sounds you see.
Anyone doing the same as me?
Can the volume keys be disabled? Or only work when on a call etc?

I do the same thing all the time. But in meetings it is in Airplane mode. As required by the chief honcho.... LoL

Yep, same thing here but it may have to do more with what I'm use than the phone itself. Coming from the iPhone the volume buttons are in the opposite side.

I know most people don't like it, but an Otter box case is the perfect remedy for this.

Super annoying :(

I always find my phone is on silent! Or I will set the volume when listening to music, only for my finger to nudge it downward when I put the phone in my pocket!

I'm having the same issue and feel it won't occur as often once my hands are accustomed to the dimensions of the device. I simply chuckle to myself when it happens...

Put the phone in your pocket upside down. This will keep your thumb away from the rocker. Same issue as with the OneX, only a little more severe since you need to grab this phone firmly due to the heft and slippery-when-naked situation. No real chance to soft touch hitting the volume rocker without depressing it. I am trying to learn myself to grab it from the HTC logo end (bottom) to avoid doing this when grabbing it from a table, but the upside down in the pocket seems to fix it there.

My new case arrive and the volume buttons are really hard to press which has now resolved my issue of constantly pressing them and changing sound profiles. Just thought i'd let you all know!

Exact HTC One M8 case

I think HTC needs 2 updates!

1. Adjust volume only when phone is unlocked

2. When 10 failed login attempts occur, LOCK PHONE HARD INSTEAD OF WIPING IT. Require login with Google account!! Similar to the way an iPhone works - failed attempts lock an iPhone and you need to sign in with your icloud account!!!

Not to get off track but...I've wiped my phone TWICE so far.... Posting to another thread on this one...

P.S. I still LOVE this phone, even better than the GS5 which I just bought for my son...

1. Adjust volume only when phone is

I just tested this with mine, and the volume doesn't change while the phone is locked. The only exception is if playing music or something already through the speakers.

Looking at mine now it changes the ringtone volume when on the lock screen, unlocked, anytime, all the time whenever I press the buttons. That's the issue - ringtone volume can be inadvertently turned down or even off -

Hi. Same with me, small hands, hitting the volume buttons, constantly muting phone. Or, so I thought.

After much confusion and frustration I finally figured out what was muting my phone (when I *knew* I hadn't messed with the volume buttons) -- it turns out when the phone goes into automatic battery saving mode it not only lowers screen brightness and turns off WiFi, but it also turns off all notifications, down to only one increment above mute, which I've never been able to hear.

I'm here trying to figure out how to deactivate this "helpful" feature.

Anyway, perhaps the culprit in your case is also more than just wandering fingers. If that's not it for you, another person posted that they experienced random muteness, which turned out to be AT&T Drive Mode.

Hope you get your phone sorted. Totally love mine!

A little update on mine. I just got a Supcase on mine and the volume keys have to be pressed with a purpose now. Oddly enough, it makes the power button pretty touchy, so it's now turning the screen on in my pocket.

The Supcase looks to be exactly the same as the case i bought. I haven't had issues with the power button though.
Significant improvement with pressing volume buttons though!
