Contact app not functioning propperlu

Hi all,

I have a rather odd problem. My contact list (preinstalled) is empty.
And when i open the app i get an endless "contact list being updated" msg.
When i try to press the "add contact" button the app tells me: no app found to handle this action.
Also when I try to add contacts via the dial app. I get the msg: "no contacts app available."
I tried:
1. Using another contacts apps (such as contacts.google). Which tells me that the contact cant be saved
2. Remove and re add my google account
3. All permissions are given
4. Auto sync of accounts is on

Google seach and available found solutions in this forum didnt yield a solution.

P.s.
I havent tried a reset yet

Welcome to Android Central! Which phone? First, go to Settings>Apps, tap Menu>Show System, and make sure the Contact Storage app isn't Disabled.

Second, go to Settings>Accounts>Google​ and select your account. Is Contacts sync turned on?
