Contact Names visible but not the Numbers

My friend has got a Samsung S7. All contacts on his phone have been vanished. As in, their names are visible but not their contact numbers. All numbers have somehow been deleted. Suggest a way to revive all the contacts?

If he entered them as Google numbers, they should be at Google Contacts. If the numbers are missing there, he can go to More/Restore and restore what was there before.

If they were entered as Phone or SIM contacts, no, sorry. (That's why all contacts should be entered as [or changed to] Google contacts, and Contact sync should be left enabled.)
