Contact pictures

If someone sent me a picture awhile back and I set it as their contact picture, where does Android save that picture file if I deleted it from my messages?

it gets saved in gmail on your contacts list. If u wipe your phone and resync, the contact comes back with the same picture. If u create a contact for the phone itself, then add a picture, it will just be saved on the phone. Once you add you google account to the mix, it goes to the "cloud" so to speak.
