Contact tones

Is there a way to assign individual contact tones in the Samsung messaging app? I have a S9 Plus, and cannot find a way.

Not any more. Google removed that feature with the introduction of Android 8.0 (Oreo).

On another thread, someone mentioned that the Google Messenger app offers the ability to assign tones to conversations. That's not exactly the same thing, but as long as the conversation is between you and one person, it comes awfully close.
