Contacts getting un-favorited

I have a problem I can't find anything on: I can go through my contacts and "star" the ones I want in my favorites, and everything is fine. They show up under Favorites. But a couple hours later, they're gone. No matter how many times I do this, the result is the same, and I can't have favorite contacts. Obviously that's pretty annoying when I have to find a contact every time I call them. Anybody have any ideas on how to fix this? I've already tried removing and re-adding accounts, clearing data in the Contacts and Contacts Storage apps, and going into Contacts app vs. going into Contacts via the Phone app.

How about this as a workaround--create a folder on your homescreen full of Direct Dial widgets or Contact widgets of all of your favorites.
