Okay, so SOMEHOW, I have triplicates of all my contacts. I went into my settings and have everything unchecked as far as what I want to see in my list.

Is it possible I'm still seeing the contact that's stored on the phone + contact stored on SIM + contact stored on SD? If I delete two random ones, is that going to mess something up? I don't want to lose any of my contacts.

Other questions about contacts:

1) If I had to restore my phone for some reason, and once it's set back up I retrieve all my contacts back from my SIM card, will all of the contact photos be gone? The SIM card only stores the name and phone numbers, right?

2) If I save a contact to 'Phone' as opposed to [email address], are the new contacts also saved on the SIM card? Or SD? Or is it JUST the phone, and if I restore my phone, I lose all those new contacts? (Omg, is this even making any sense?)

3) Why would it even ASK me if I want to save the new contact to my email address?

NOTE: I use GO Contacts EX by default but if I open my stock contacts, it also shows triplicates.

This is a lot but ill try and be as helpful as I can.
#1- if you have to restore your phone for some odd reason and you have your contacts on your sim card I believe you can just view them from the contacts app without having to import them, however there is also an option to import them to the phone so you dont have to have all your contacts on the sim card.

#2- if you save your contacts to "phone" everytime you wipe your phonw or factory reset it your contacts will all be erased.. I dont think you can actually save contacts on an sd card unless theres an app for that lol. And if ypu want them to go to the sim card you have to export them.

#3- the reason it asks if you want to save it tp your email address is so it can backup all your contacts online. For example, most likely its asking if you want to save it to your google account. Well if you ever wipe your phone and you want to restore your contacts if you saved them to your google account whenever you log in on your phone through a Google account your contacts will automatically be in your phone. To have this option you can go to settings then scroll down to accounts and sync and go into google account and check the settings in there. Personally I would say do this if your comfortable using google and such.

And about the triple contacts im not sure what could be going on I never used GO contacts ex.

Hope this helps a little.

You can export your contacts to the SD card- no app needed, it's an option through the "import/export" feature.. They are saved in a .vcf format file. The phone doesn't acces them from this file, it's only useful for storing a backup of your contacts.

Interesting.. you learn something new everyday. Thanks.

Keep in mind that if you ever need to restore your contacts list, just select "import", and it will locate that file from your SD card. The only caveat being the age of your last backup.

triplicates means your phone is displaying the same contacts from 3 different sources and there are a number of ways that could happen depending on how your phone is setup. You may be able to go to settings when in contacts and change "contacts to display" to quickly fix the problem. For instance, if you use Gmail and it imported contacts from Yahoo for example, uncheck one or the other. You can also uncheck sim card and phone. I think the best bet is to sync your contacts to a couple of online sources like Lookout, Carbonite ect. & through Kies to your PC and of course also to your email. That way should you lose the phone the contacts are easily restored.

The easiest way to edit your contacts list is on the computer on Google. All your contacts should be synced to Google account, sign into Google and go to Gmail tab, then contacts. Delete the ones you dont need, save it, then resync your Contacts on your phone. This works with Google calendar too.. Changes made on the pc will be synced to your phone
