Contacts issue

I have an unusual thing with my stock contacts app. When I try to open a contact from the app, it shuts down most of the time.
Suggestions on how to reset or find the issue?
Fyi,I dig the stock app and haven't found a good alternative for my liking

If you go to apps-all you can delete data from the contacts app and contacts storage. I would guess if you are backed up with Google it would just repopulate the entries??

Have you tried clearing the cache for your contacts app and restarting the phone?

Android since v1.0. Linux since 2001.

I pretty much just deleted and hoped I had our all backed up.
I'm missing a few, but I really do like the stock app better than what we've had in the past.

It is back to functioning properly, minus a few contacts that I can catch up on.
