Ok just made the jump from iPhone to the Atrix, and am trying to get everything configured. One thing that I am trying to fix is that it wants to list my contacts alphabetically by First name. On the iOS device I had it set so they were listed as (First, Last) but sorted by Last name. example Wanda Doe would be listed above Jane Smith.

Can anyone offer any suggestions?

You can only create groups... or show favorites...

I give numeric prefixes with a dash before names in my lists, so they always show in my preferred order. It's more personalized that way and better meets my needs. It also pays to make shortcut #01 "home". I once lost a phone, and the man who found it called me to tell me he had it. We setup a meet for me to retrieve it, I was saved from a world of trouble and new phone purchase. My list looks something like so:

00- Home
01- Significant Other's Cell
02- Work
03- In case of accident
04- Name
05- Name

It's not much to have a few different sorting schemes, though... They obviously didn't waste too much time and resources on the contact list, as it should have been a feature right from the get-go.

Sorting contacts by Last Name

Unfortunately, sorting your contacts by last name or by business name is not possible on the stock contact list on the Atrix. I spent more than a bit of time on the phone with Moto tech support to get the definitive answer for this. They couldn't tell me why they removed such a basic function from this phone, but told me they would pass along my concerns "to the engineering team."

There are contact apps out there that will allow you to do this. I personally use DejaOffice, but there are others. Or you can sort your contacts into small enough groups that it is easy to find your contacts by first name.

Unbelievable I know--but it simply isn't an available option on the stock Android Atrix.

Good Luck!

I just downloaded GO Contacts by the devteam. It has an option to sort by last name, although it's not working for me. It has a lot of options & settings.
