Contacts saved to phone but not to Google

We've had customers come in to the store for the 2.1 updates who had contacts saved just to their phones. After the update those didn't sync. Any idea on how to get contacts stored just on the phone to sync with Google?

When editing a contact, look for the type of contact it is. Usually you can set it to "Google", "Phone", etc. If it's set to "Phone", it doesn't sync. Set it to Google to sync with your Gmail contacts. Hope this helps!

Is there anyway to make Googe the default for contacts? And why does it create seperate contacts? This is also something that should be made clear when first using the phone. It was a pain in the rear when I realized the "phone" contacts wasn't syncing. I had to reenter them as "Google" because there is no option to edit for the contact list.

i have a motorola milestone, and cant find how to make a contact NOT gmail

and motorolas have something called "motorola phone portal", wich is basically a web server in the phone, so you can access it over wifi (or usb)

it lets you do lost of stuff, including editing contacts

Anyone have further insight to this Contacts/People issue? Contacts for personal and business purposes is an important issue for me and I am sure many others.
