What is the most comprehensive and safe way to transfer the entire content from one Android to another, in my case from Note 3 to S7 Edge?

I wonder if it makes a difference that some content (incl. apps) is on the memory card.

If you are switching providers, you may want to go through the app list and make sure not to transfer over the old provider's bloatware...

Is there any merit in not transferring apps that way, but having them installed anew through Google Play Store?

Can Smart Switch transfer selected apps or is it all or none?

Verizon's transfer app allows one to pick and choose, though it seems to ignore some apps.

If you are using the same Google account between phones, then you can download all your apps without having to pay for them a second time.

Also, if you open up the play store, go to My Apps and the All Apps tab, you'll have a list of everything you've downloaded before.

My S7 came with an adaptor to plug my old phone (Note 4) into it and as soon as I did so it asked me what items I wanted to transfer and it was a done deal, very simple. Maybe that was smart switch? I'm not sure but it was easy
