Contrary to what Best Buy employee's are telling you...

I'm not gunna even worry about it anymore, if I end up changing plans so be it

I think you have the best attitude, seriously. In the grand scheme of things, the minutes shouldn't be a concern. You have the better insurance plan and that will save you money in the long run if you break your phone.

Seriously, I worried about this too much before I just made my decision. I was sick of weighing and re and weighing re re weighing my options.

I came to that realization also Matt. Had my bb guy look up my usage history, my wife and I combined barely use 1 gb. And here I've been freaking out over losing unlimited. Lmao not only that, I'll be saving $29 by going to the new plan. Although I realize this may not be the case for everyone but I thought it was effing funny.

Keep into consideration that you are getting a 4G LTE phone and that you might tend to consume a lot more data with it.

Since I'm coming from droidX can you explain that to me real quick. does that mean 4gLTE eats more data per the same usage as I would have on my 3G, or just because it's faster i'll use it more frequently? Therefore incurring more data usage.. :-\

The idea is since it's considerably faster, you'll use it more, maybe stream HD instead of normal youtube, etc. I've been using about 2GB and consider myself to be a fairly low data user but that's connected to LTE 24/7 with no wifi.

I am glad, yet unhappy, that I found this thread. I had this exact question about pre - ordering and keeping unlimited data. I went to a Verizon store yesterday and I was flat out told by the rep that I would not be able to keep my unlimited data because the S3 would not be activated until after the 28th. I smiled nicely and thanked her, thinking she doesn't know what she's talking about, walked out, and went directly to the AC forums. Reading this thread today, I realized that although all the employees look the part of actual Verizon employees, I think it was a third party reseller I was at. So maybe all of their orders are treated like Best Buy or Costco or anyone other than direct from VZW, and maybe she does know what she's talking about?

But then as I kept reading this thread, it sounds like NOBODY has a concrete answer, not even people at Verizon? Seems like such a simple question really. Seems like we won't know the real answer until people get the phone in hand and start activating them.

Talking to my vzw rep with 15 years experience, he told me pre orders are grandfathered in to unlimited.

Wrong how? The general consensus is that those who pre-ordered are safe at least until the end of their contract.

If you preorder from verizon this is true. But how is verizon even to tell the difference between someone who preordered a phone from best buy and activated or someone who jut walked in and bought one and activated? They don't know the difference. They will all be treated as new upgrades and therefore subject to new data plans. It doesnt even make sense that the other way.

Forgot this was about best buy's pre orders. Not familiar with their process but do you actually agree to anything on Verizon's end or do they just write your name down? Know they give you a gift card when for the $50 you give them to reserve your space but that's it.

You are pretty much just getting them to hold one for you when they get stock. There is no interaction with Verizon at all. Especially since it seems like BB gets their phone directly from Samsung. You don't deal with Verizon at all until you activate it and agree to a new contract and there's the rub.

So...whatever happened with this? Did best buy/Verizon honor your pre order?

I pre ordered my phone from BB mainly for the $50 credit. When I went to pick up my GS3 the young lady that was helping me showed me a mesage on the terminal saying that I was going to lose my UL data. "Proceed Y/N" I told here about the pre-order and she said well you really didn't upgrade til today so you'll still lose it. She then offered to call VZW and ask. The VZW rep told her no prob, call her back after the phone is activated and she'll put it back to U/L. OK I said lets give it a try.. ( I know I'll be losing U/L data soon as I upgrade my wifes phone) We went through the the activation process. The Tech called VZW back and she put U/L data back on my phone!
Well theres one sucess storiy!:)

What about the best buy pre orders?

All BEST BUY pre orders prior to June 28th were able to keep their unlimited data plan. Granted the employee called Verizon during the activation.
