Controlling the scan on the S10

There is a new functionality on the S10 which allows you to scan documents. I don't know if it would be that good at a full sized document, but for receipts it's great ... when it works. When you bring up the camera, and aim at a receipt it brings up the scan function. But ---

  1. :-X It doesn't always do so (even if the setting to automatically the photo mode choose is on), and it is not obvious what triggers that function.
  2. :p It usually appears when you are at a given angle, which not really the angle one would want to scan a receipt, and if you try to change the angle, the scan frame disappears.
  3. :( The scan frame does not always have the right shape, and there doesn't seem to be anyway to change the frame for the scan.
  4. :'( Instead of just taking the picture with the usual button, you have to go press the scan button in the middle. This means it becomes easy to then mess up the scan.
Does anyone know how to simply "choose" the scan mode so that I could take a bunch of receipt photos and they would all be scans?

Scan mode usually refers to an all-in-one printer or a scanner. I doubt that the scan mode does anything more than take a picture of the document, so why not just turn it off (in Settings in the camera app) and take a picture of the document or receipt? I've been taking pictures of receipts that I need for warranties since about 2008 - with no "scan mode".

Scan mode does not mean the same thing as a printer scanner, it means that it flattens out the image, crops the photo, removes any shine etc ..
This way it is easier to read for other apps and takes up less space.

I ran into this function by accident when trying to take a picture of a document page. Its hit or miss.
