Copying Data Via cable phone shuts down

Which phone shuts down -- the Note20, or the Note8 (or both)? Have you tried different cables? Is the phone actually powering down completely, or is the screen just going to sleep?

The note 8 completely shut down and goes off and begins to show , phone off charging. Like as if something electrical is being tripped. I used the cable that came with the n20.

I gave up and left it alone to charge, both devices separately.
I proceeded to connect the cables one more time and it worked. Then throughout the smart switch process of figuring out which device to take and to send it tripped again.

I think it got confused and just shut off.

Does the Note8 get warm during the transfer process? If so, it might be due to a failing battery, and the phone is forcing a shutdown due to the battery being relatively overstressed.

It was as SOON as I plug it in.

Couldn't say what's going on, but maybe just back up there phone and then restore the data to your new phone. I had no problem using smart switch for my last two upgrades. If guess there is something wrong with one of the phones.

Does it happen if you connect the Note8 to a PC via USB and try to transfer data that way? If so, then you're probably right -- something electrical might be shorting due to the data connection.

I have an idea.
So as soon as I plug in them together. My note20u tries to charge by receiving power from the n8. But then the note 8 turns off and then the note 20 starts providing power.

Its the hand shake that's causing the mess up

Interesting. I do recall the first time I used smart switch, the instructions specifically required one of the phones to use the USB-C to type-A adapter. I can't remember which and I don't know for certain of it truly is directional. This is then they were still providing a type-A equipped wall plug. Could be worth a shot to find the old instructions and try a the adapter if you still have one.
