Corner of the screen is loose

Thought I might share my expierence.

I also had the same problem. Bottom left on mine. I took it into Sprint yesturday and the lady said she was not sure if it was a problem or not. Needless to say I did not accept that answer and the Rep said she would place me on the waiting list for Evo's and when they get to me they would call. Well today I get the call to come in because the had the Evo in stock for me but they would need to see if the screen being loose was "actually a problem" .

So I drive down there and ask directly for the manager and calmly explain my problem and show her my device. She apologized and stated that the screen was not supposed to do that (imagine that lol) and she quicly exchanged my device no questions asked.

However when looking at the screen you can definitly see that the screen is held by adhesive and mine was coming loose.

All in all i did get a replacement and the manager even replaced the Sprint screen protector for free since I bought the orinigal one from them and had my unit replaced.

My advice is if your screen is loose to replace it before it gets worse and lets dust in or stops functioning correctly.

Both of our Evos are slightly raised at the bottom edge and have the reported light leakage under the bottom buttons. Mine also has faint light leakage around the entire screen.

Also, does anyone know if adding that caulk as someone mentioned in another post would void our warranties/TEP? Thanks.

I took my phone in today to the Sprint store. They looked at the loose corner, told me that they hadn't worked on an EVO before and it might take a while. Less than 20 minutes later I was out the door with an all new housing, all corners firmly secured. Super easy.

Wow. So they actually repaired the phone? Interesting.

Does anyone know if the newly shipped EVO, or the EVOs that you are getting replaced have this adhesive problem fixed. i.e is it worth your time to get a replacement if its the same build, only to have the problem to happen again ?

I can understand the urge to improvise solutions, such as the caulk fix, but for myself I would only try it as an experiment if I had the engineering expertise and resources available to understand the possible short and long term effects, and a warehouse full of free replacements at my disposal.

To risk invalidating my warranty on a single brand new unit that I am committed to spending thousands of my own money on over a 2 year period is beyond me. IMO the loose screen and light bleeding problem/s are potentially quite serious, and they should be investigated, analyzed and corrected by the Quality and Engineering folks at HTC and Sprint. I would expect that HTC is currently looking at returned defectives under a microscope, and that they will modify the manufacturing process to prevent future occurences.

Like several others, I thought I'd post my experience here. When I got my evo, I had no light leakage. Now I do although it is very mild. However, you can tell that the lower left part of the screen has come up a little. If you press it back down, the light leakage goes away but only temporarily. After a little bit the screen comes loose again.

It is pretty clear this is an adhesive issue and not a loose screw. Pressing the screen back down causes it to stick for a little while but eventually it doesn't hold.

I drove to a Sprint store this morning, armed with evidence from this thread that they are fixing/replacing phones with this problem. I went in and told them that my screen was "loose" in the bottom left corner. At first the Sprint representative seemed like he was going to give me the "I don't see anything wrong with it" line. Then I mentioned that you could verify it easily by turning on the phone in a dark room--there was light leakage in that corner.

Just a guess, but he must have been familiar with that complaint. He changed his attitude immediately. They took my name/number/etc and are going to call me as soon as they get more Evo stock--he thought 2-3 weeks--and swap out my phone for a new one. I didn't purchase the insurance option so they are doing this outside of that avenue.

I am a little worried my replacement phone might have the same issue but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.

Bad press for the EVO is something Sprint did not need.

It might get the production fixed. Also, a flagship phone commanding a $10 monthly fee with cheap production costs is another thing Sprint could have missed. Sadly, that didn't happen.

I have a slight light leakage issue under the home button. If I push down it disappears for a couple seconds and then comes back.

I took it into the Sprint store and the rep looked at it. I asked if anyone else had come in with this issue and he said no. He put me on a list for a new one. Although after reading many different forums and seeing there's still no acknowledgement from HTC about it, I have to wonder if the same thing will happen again.

I hope this issue gets worked out. The screen/light issue and now I'm seeing overheating issues... does not bode well. Sprint must be pissed that every flagship phone they try ends up having hardware issues that begin to overshadow the initial hype and excitement and pleased responses/reviews from consumers.

This is a pretty big bummer. I've had the phone since release day, and have had no issues, and still have no issues. But now I sort of want to return the phone and cancel with Sprint...I don't want my screen to start falling off three months down the line. After reading the screen is held by shadily by a bunch of adhesive...it seems like this problem will surely arise for most people.

After looking carefully at the teardown pictures and descriptions in HTC Evo 4G Teardown - iFixit
and especially a zoomed view of a huge blowup of the window removal pics in step 11, I'm now a bit encouraged that this serious problem perhaps could be resolved by HTC with a change to the adhesive, or changes to the distribution of the adhesive between the glass and the case.

Their comment that "Removing the glass is not terribly difficult with the Evo 4G. This is great news for those unfortunate enough to drop their shiny phone and crack the glass.", sounds like it is perhaps a bit too easy to separate, leading to the problems that customers are experiencing.

Well I guess I should feel grateful cause I don't have NO ISSUES AT ALL!!!!

i see that mines not as recessed on the bottom as it is up top, but i dont see any real issue with it. If my phone starts shedding apart, ill just take it in. 1 year warranty is standard on all phones.
