On Amazon I found the following for £26 ($35): "High Power Replacement Battery Compatible with Samsung Galaxy A52 A525F... GLK-Technologies Battery, 4700 mAh Battery", capacity 4700 Milliamp Hours, voltage 3.8 Volts with very good ratings.

Meanwhile my local repair shop says it will replace my battery for roughly the same price labor included.

Should I be suspicious? Is it common for repair shops to replace old batteries with perhaps 20% or 30% used ones (instead of brand new ones)?

I mean, if you found it on Amazon for that cheap then chances are they found a supplier elsewhere like AliExpress or AliBaba and just imported a bunch of them for cheap in bulk. They're like $2-$6 on there. Even at like $3 cost to them, charging you $25 is like 733.33% profit lol. There's always the concern they may be using used ones, but eh. For $26 and not having to do it yourself, whatever.

I'd be real leary of purchasing a so-called "compatible replacement battery kit" from one of those Chinese 3rd-party "Sold by:" sellers on amazon !!!
From whom, if you do decide to purchase one, you should definitely click on their amazon-page "Sold by:" name, and then carefully scrutinise & read their % of 'positive' & [ 1 Star ] ratings &c !

Btw, I just chatted with a Samsung Support chat associate—regarding the Galaxy A52 replacement batteries—who said:

"Great, so yes we can change his battery in any Authorized Samsung service center, which will be an original Samsung new battery with a warranty 90 days, and also it will be handled with certified engineers.

Actually we don't recommend the battery replacement repair kits.

To find a Authorized Samsung service center:

To schedule an appointment with the authorized service center, go to the above link and sign into your Samsung account.
If you have any scheduling issues, I recommend that you contact them directly and make an appointment.
~

Just to add, that the new One UI will be released in the upcoming months which will solve all the reported glitches and concerns."

As above, finding a legitimate (and safe) battery will ultimately cost you at least half of what the phone is worth. Then you need to adhesive. Possibly a new back panel if you warp yours.

The repair shop i can almost guarantee you will use the same cheap knockoff or worse at whatever makes them the biggest profit. They won't use a genuine Samsung battery at that price.

Thanks guys, I guess I'll just hand the phone to the repair shop and they take care of everything. Am I right to assume the new battery will start showing signs of weakness within 6 months?

I guess I won't do that then lol, so what is the right thing to do guys? My phone is 3 years old now and I'm still very happy with it but the battery requires at least 1 daily charge which is annoying

Frequency of charging totally depends on usage, and how many apps & things may be running in the background.
From what I've read, I don't think it's uncommon—with many or most users—to charge once per day. More than one charging cycle per day... would be very high usage, and again from what I've read, not best for a phones' battery life.

★ Search how often most users charge their phones.

I typically charge my S23+ once every 2 to 3 days, but I always keep WiFi & mobile data turned-off – unless I need to use either, and because I rarely use my phone for web searching &c, and I never allow location or apps &c to be running in the background. Though when I do read a lot of stuff on the web via either WiFi or mobile data – I also often do a "1 daily charge".

The consensus here is find an Authorized Samsung repair shop and get yourself a genuine battery replacement which will come with a warranty.

This is why you can't trust Google's price overview and Amazon not making the Renewed more prominent.
The price I saw was indeed Renewed.

Still the big issue is safe, genuine, true capacity battery. Samsung (last I checked) will only sell to authorized retailers.

There are counterfeits of decent third-party batteries and neighs packaging if it even has any is packaged to make it distinguishable unless you have to side by side.

All that said, I don't know what UK is like but in some US cell carriers with brick and mortar stores have rudimentary repairs shops. It cant hurt to ask one in your area if they would order you a genuine battery and sell it to you.
Regardless as DIY you still need adhesive backing for that exact phone which often comes with an inferior but "free" rear panel.

You could try eBay. Ask the seller if it's an original battery and to send via eBay mail so it's logged a screenshot of the battery health and decide if buying a used one is worth it for parts. You'd have extra stuff at least in the future. If they can't or are supposedly unsure. Walk away.
Amazon is an option for a renewed to swap parts but sellers rarely answer and you need to know about the battery.

The final suggestion I could give is VERY OBVIOUSLY DONT TELL ME where you live, even if by PM, only your general area and see if I can help maybe find a shop.
Again, don't provide me with any Serial Numbers, your name, address, IMEI, etc..
I'm in a very rare and exceptionally charitable mood.

Feel free to reach out here or XDA where I'm retired.
