Could Gingerbread be right around the corner?

Well, it seems like that the latest leak is still UCLB3, which was leaked on February 21, more than a month ago. According to some research I have done, new leaks are released in very short time intervals.

I check Samsung's upgrade page every single day and also the AT&T forum that focuses on the upgrade. So far, I've read on those forums nothing but complaints. The upgrade page is always the same.

Exactly how stable is UCLB3? If it's as stable as (or more stable than) UCKH1 (which I'm still on; I feel like I shouldn't have to flash a ROM through Odin or those other third-party tools - Kies mini is all I want to use because it should just work like that), then would that explain why further leaks have stopped?

I'm getting antsy about the Gingerbread update because of all the things that it's supposed to fix or enhance. I'm especially looking forward to faster HSPA+, better battery life and performance improvements. The Infuse 4G does not deserve Froyo; it deserves Gingerbread because I think that's what will bring out the true capabilities of this phone.

A side question: how much faster is HSPA+ on UCLB3, and how much better is the battery life?

UCLB3 is pretty solid. It is still an incomplete version though, there are little things like the battery indicator won't change colors to yellow and orange when low (it stays green). Aside from that though, it was very stable and definitely does not automatically freeze up and shut off like UCKH1 Froyo.

At this point, I don't know. It would make sense for the Gingerbread update to come out, since it would be a waste if all of Samsung/AT&T developers' efforts so far in testing multiple Gingerbread builds for this phone get scrapped. However, I'm also beginning to feel like time-wise, it's just gotten so ridiculously out-of-hand, and they have bigger fish to fry (testing Ice Cream Sandwich for Galaxy SII, Skyrocket, Note, etc.).

I myself jumped ship to the AT&T Galaxy SII last week, and the experience has been absolutely heaven vs. hell. It's not even just the Gingerbread, the phone is so much faster and smoother, way less bugs, and the user experience is just overall so much cleaner. Little things here and there, along with what to me feels like a better camera (people swear that the Infuse has the same camera as the Galaxy SII, but I doubt it, the Infuse camera has an issue with having trouble focusing for close distances, and no such problem for the SII).

Anyways, I'm going off on a tangent, but my point is, I hope for anyone who reads this post, don't judge Samsung's phones by the Infuse 4G.

Back to the point, I don't know if the data speeds were necessarily faster, but I think it's supposed to get a little bit better (however, I didn't notice a substantial change). Battery life is a bit better, and wifi is a lot quicker at logging in.

It would be more than just a waste if AT&T and Samsung ditched their builds of Gingerbread and declared the Infuse as a phone that will no longer receive any more updates past UCKH1. People over at the AT&T forum are posting unnecessary libelous content, complaining about how AT&T and Samsung can't get it together. I myself found no need to join in with their complaints.

Anyway, people would complain even more if both companies scrapped the update entirely. And I don't think that AT&T would issue a press release promising Gingerbread if they would plan to scrap it. Samsung also would not have a page that is dedicated to providing information on how to upgrade the Infuse, albeit the page right now doesn't have the most appealing message posted on it.

I do hope, however, that the upgrade will officially occur before the end of the month. If not, then I hope by the end of April. Given that all leaks have stopped for more than a month, I'm guessing that the upgrade is going to happen sooner than we think.

All of you people are dreaming if you think they are going to come out with an update for the infuse. It's been almost a year since it was first released. They know people want 2.3.6, and will make people buy new phones to get it. If you really want it, learn how to root it and put gingerbread on yourself. Otherwise, be happy with 2.2

I'm definitely with you on these facts. I certainly don't think it'd be ethical if a company promises a major software update and then never does it. And, like I said, if there was absolutely no intention to upgrade the Infuse to Gingerbread, then SAMSUNG would never have been posted in the first place. Or, it would have been taken down. But then that would contradict what I said about the ethics behind a company's promise.

And another thing: since AT&T never announced when exactly the Infuse would get the update, no one can blame AT&T or Samsung for not releasing the update in a timely matter. So many people have misunderstood that press release, thinking that the Infuse was supposed to get the update by the end of 2011. Nowhere in the press release does it reference any deadline to when all six phones should be updated by. It only shows what phones are planned to be updated. In my interpretation, "planned" equals "will be, guaranteed."

Indeed, the facts that there aren't any more leaks coming out and that Samsung and AT&T are working on a fix (though it's been more than a month and I have no idea what other fixes that they are working on, besides the touchscreen and texting issues) all point to one thing that is quite obvious:

The Gingerbread update is imminent; it could happen any time now. What's more, the AT&T forum that I mentioned (Samsung Infuse 4G page 80 is, as of this post, is the current number of pages on the thread) was accidentally archived, but now it's restored, according to an AT&T representative. Although the representative said she had no new news to share at the moment, this could change, provided that she can now freely give input regarding the update.

No one would release leaks for the fun of it, would they? Correct me if I'm wrong here, but isn't the reason behind leaks, in this context, is because developers at Samsung are legitimately working on a Gingerbread ROM for the Infuse? Isn't that enough evidence, gary_baxter, that there WILL be an update?

However, you are starting to remind me of the old Peanuts comic strip where Charlie Brown is standing on the flooded pitcher's mound long after both teams have gone home, urging everyone not to give up hope, because it's just a passing shower and it will stop any minute now so the game can resume.

By all appearances, ATT badly fumbled (to mix metaphors) this one trying to get their bloatware coded into what should have been a fairly straightforward update. There's really nothing libelous about the user community saying as much.

I'm fascinated at how optimism seems to be frowned upon now. You're denying the obvious: leaks=work in progress.

You wouldn't go on stage to perform in front of an audience before taking lessons from a teacher and/or auditioning, would you? Taking lessons or auditioning signifies work in progress that would lead to the final product: a jury or a performance in front of a live audience, or, in some cases, denial of progress.

But in this case, progress has been approved because leaks occurred, and the most recent one, UCLB3, is very stable, according to users of that ROM.

The REAL truth to this forever waiting for an update can really be described in three words.... (pardon the language) - PHQUEING CORPORATE GREED.... Yeah, it's pretty ridiculous. November last year would still have been considered late, but now, it's just like... Yeah, no words to describe its lateness lol.

The lesson I learned is to never buy a non-flagship phone for Androids. The Infuse got no love from its mothership and was left out in the middle of the ocean to shrivel up and sink until forgotten.

You are right. It's only a phone... The real issue is with INTEGRITY, or lack thereof. People are judged by how they honor their word. Corporations are a bunch of people. Same thing but on a larger scale. I do not have the smoking gun to actually prove this alligation, but, when you are talking about millions of dollars, REAL customer care is the victim while corporate profits are the golden cow they covet. This is my story and I am sticking to it........

just noticed that Samsung re-released Kies mini on their Infuse support page on March 23. Version is the same; they might be starting their update procedure from scratch. Hopefully, we'll see some gingerbread in the coming weeks.
