Couple questions about 2.2 and shutdown issues.

First, if at&t ever gets the 2.2 update will it fix the random shutdown problem?
Second, I am using an unlocked at&t captivate on the fido network in canada, will I be able to even get the update without rooting?
Third, is there an "official" statement from at&t or samsung about the shutdown issue that I can print out if I choose to return?

Thanks.

AT&T and Samsung issued an internal bulletin describing the problem as a hardware issue for Samsung Captivate phones made before November 6, 2010 with IMEI numbers 352982040855394 or lower, such as 5393, 5392, etc. To locate your phone's IMEI number, see the photo towards the end of this article (http://www.wirelessandmobilenews.co...turns-off-shuts-down-if-made-before-1106.html). If your Samsung Captivate was made after November 6, you should not experience the turn-off problem.

Thanks for the info.

My imei # is 351863045364789, so it qualifies.

How do I find the manufacture date?

Also, is there somewhere on samsungs website or somthing with that press release instead of a copied and pasted forum post?

If you remove the battery, there is a number that looks like-

1006 or 1007 or 1008, etc. Year and month.

The ATT post is the only official word I have seen on this one, so I would print that sheet out with the address available, in case your local guy has not seen it.

Alright, 1009 it is. Might have to try return this pos. Wish it worked right. As it is, it only shuts down once every day or two, but still, it should work and who knows, maybe it'll get worse if I don't try return it.

Thanks for the help guys.

I had the hardware fix done, rather than the software band aid fix, and it worked great!!

Just FYI, the first 4 digits are as important as the last 4 digits. My last four are 92xx, but my first 4 are 3518. So you can't go by the last 4 alone.
