CPU speed freakout

Have you tried to use setcpu? Maybe system panel lite is reporting the speed incorrectly and something else is causing the lag. So far, it looks like you've only used CM7 to change the clock speeds. You can get setcpu for free from the XDA forums. Also, try different governors. That might help. Are you using the rom's default kernel or flashing a new kernel over it?

I've never seen this type of bug. If it were a hardware bug, temperature would be the only reasonable explanation for the 5 min delay before it sets in, and even then, heat issues usually cause a lockup. Otherwise, a hardware flaw would cause the phone to not boot or for the clock to be stuck always.

Try using the performance mode.

I had permission troubles a while back. The Xionia recovery. Has a fix permissions. What do you have to loose? Try that then flash a new install.

When I had permission trouble alot a settings were stuck and it was really screwy. Give it a try.

Setting your cpu at 122 is part of the issue.
Our cpu, if I remember right, doesn't even support that speed.

Setting it too low has serious consequences from what we have seen.
Too low and the CPU runs away, as in, full speed, any time it needs to process, and won't stop until the processing is done and it returns to sleep.

This is why we say to set a minimum of 480 or so.
You can go lower for just mp3 playing (3X0?), but streaming music or gps navigation will over-run that setting. You can test this by setting 240, and start navigation, the phone will get quite warm. Change it to a higher minimum and the phone runs cooler. You can also see this in the battery life.

You are better off setting it at max speed for both settings than setting it too low.

He's having trouble with the CPU forcing itself to throttle down. Ignoring all his setting changes.

That's why I suggested trying to fix permissions, it might be a corrupted setting in a file that had its permission corrupted. So every time he flashed or tried to change it it failed. I don't know for sure if that could even happen but the thread is 3 pages long so I thought it couldn't hurt to try.

My understanding is that we can't even get to 122.

My advice to the OP is use a nandroid backup from before you had the issue.
I'm betting it's a software issue and/or a false reading.

Oh, and it's named after Harmonia, daughter of Aphrodite.

Well, it completely died for a few hours... not sure what happened.. the screen went black in the middle of an attempted fastboot restoration, then turned off and would not power on at all. I came back to it about half an hour ago to try turning it on, and it popped on! I used recovery to flash on reborn, and the problem seems to be resolved! I'm not sure what the issue was, but its running along happily at 748! Did my phone enter the Bermuda. Triangle, or what? I'll be "thanking " all who provided helpful input! Thanks all! (Yes, you too watsky :-*)

Sounds like it passed a kidney stone. I'm glad it worked out.

I once watched one of my brothers pass a kidney stone, at the age of 25, first time I had ever seen him cry like a baby.

I can imagine you felt similar until your phone powered back on. Glad you got it going again! ;)
