I don't get that at all. My pause/play/skip is very fast. I have Ford Sync as well on an '09. Pandora is awesome on it, and I use the Youmail visual voicemail service, in the car it works great. Skip/play/pause even works in Pandora. What really cheeses friends out is when I am in bluetooth audio, and I tap the voice search button on the Droid and I say something like "Navigate to Carelli's Pizzeria" and then the Droid starts talking through the bluetooth. My buddies are like "Whoa man that's awesome!!!"

Voice dialing and phonebook download is flawless.
I'd troubleshoot your setup, maybe something is up? I do not see any of the troubles you are experiencing at all.

Check out the Moto Droid forums:

May be other threads too.

BTW, I'm not saying Pandora doesn't work. Have you tried the built-in media player and Google Listen? That's where I had problems. Not to mention the initial connection not being made when getting in the car and occasional disconnects from stereo audio after phone calls ended. I've also had times when the call disconnected before I could answer it, etc. See the threads for more info.

I really rely on stereo Bluetooth and it was just too unreliable with the Moto Droid and my car.

I'm just suprised at how many variations of Andriod are in circulation at this early stage. The Palm/iPhone over-the-air update system would have been so much nicer.. of course, with all the customized UIs in play, I could see how that would not work as well in practice with Android.

does anyone know if Sprint will get an Adroid 2.0 device in near future?

It's only a matter of time. With the droid on verizon, you can bet on the only other CDMA carrier will get something similar. Motorola tends to spread their phones across the specrum of carriers anyway.

They'll get it. AT&T is finally getting Android as well....granted with a wanna-be -Motorola-Cliq, but still...

Im guessing everyone out there that isnot a blackberry fan is loving the fact that RIM had that giant email outage yesterday! huh?
it makes us blackberry people look stupid!

I'm not loving that it happened, but I'm glad I did not have to experience that frustration. :D

Here's my 2 cents:

Got my Droid on November 12th after 2 years of using a Blackberry 8830 World Edition:

1. how do you find the hardware (comfort of use, ease of use)?

The touchscreen to me is very responsive and had no problem going from the BB to this phone. The screen is beautiful; videos and web pages look really good on it. Having not had a camera on my phone for 2 years, I can't really compare it to anything else (my last phone with a camera was a Treo 650) but after the 2.0.1 update, taking pictures has been a lot better, although the image quality is still off when it comes to colors and low-light pictures (don't really expect much from a camera phone though, even if it is 5MP). I've used both the slide-out keyboard and the on-screen keyboard and both take some getting used to. Gotten better with the slide-out, but it still pales in comparison to the BB. The touchscreen keyboard can't really keep up with how fast I want to type so I find myself typing a little slower to ensure the keypresses register (the auto-correct feature though is pretty good in correcting minor mistakes).

2. how do you find the battery life (everyday light/normal use, heavy use)?

I consider myself a pretty heavy user (I use it for work calls, personal emails, and get a decent amount of texts per day) and with this Droid (first one died on me) it's 100% charged in the morning and by the time I go to sleep (10-10:30) it's about 20%. If I don't make a bunch of calls it's probably around 35-40%, and I think that if I left it on without charging could probably make it through the next morning before the battery really got low. My 8830 would last 2-3 days but didn't have as heavy use (I find myself surfing the web a LOT more with the Droid)

3. if you we're a BB user and switched up to give Android a test, what do you like and not like about it?

Gotta LOVE the browser compared to the BB. Never tried out mobile Opera or Bolt since I didn't have much space left on the 8830 (had maybe 9 MB free). I REALLY miss BB Messenger though. Just got 5.0 working on the 8830 before I got the Droid and really liked the differences compared to the old one. Using GMail as my primary email is a plus for the Droid (Duh) but it doesn't seem to handle other email accounts nearly as well (I tend to get a lot of multiple notifications for old email that I've read from my Hotmail account). Tried to get it to work on my work Exchange and the Droid just couldn't get it to configure itself properly. Whereas I know that if I signed up for BES service with Verizon, it would work without issue. I also really miss the auto-on/off feature from the BB. There are options for the Droid, but none of them give the true feature that was available on the BB. I will say though that the Android OS seems a lot snappier and responsive than BB 4.5. Not having to do a battery pull to free up memory is a BIG plus as Android natively manages memory a lot better than BB does.

4. what are the must have apps? how does the device do with running them all?

Don't really have too many apps running in the background but I've installed the following:

SMS Popup - Great SMS alternative to the native notification service
SNESoid - Probably the only true use of the DPad on the Droid and all the games render beautifully on the screen
Astro File Manager - Manages apps and files on the phone and SDCard
Remember the Milk - Astrid does the same thing for free but having paid for the Pro version, syncs up with all of the fields that I use
Google Voice, Listen, and Goggles - All great apps that sync well with Android
PDA Net - Allows USB tethering

5. how do you go about loading up the device with media (music, movies, etc.)

I just hook it up to the computer and drag and drop using Windows Explorer. I have DoubleTwist installed on my computer and that seems to be an for auto-sync, but I don't really like it since the only thing that I'd like to auto-sync would be the podcasts I listen to (DoubleTwist doesn't do podcasts like iTunes does)

6. with all that, i want to know your background - are you in business (using it for professional use), a consumer, a student, young, old, male, female, etc.

I'm a 31 yr old male using it mainly for personal use (some calls and emails sent to my gmail account and Remember the Milk are the extent of my professional use for the phone)

All in all, I really like this phone and now that I have it rooted, I'm pretty excited at the idea of custom ROMS that will allow for 2.1 to be ported to it with an HTC sense UI feel as well as multi-touch ability to be enabled for the different apps.

PALM watch out!

I tell you what, I've been upset (started a new contract before the Hero came out), I had a chance to look at the HTC Hero and man I was BLOWIN away!!! I would give up my Palm Pre in a second for the HTC Hero!!!! That phone has everything I need...who CARES about multi-tasking cards! I tell you what I thought the Pre was the setting the standard in cell phone OS but I was WRONG! If I could get my hands on the HTC Hero I would be a DREAM COME TRUE!!! After just 5 minutes playing around with the HTC Hero, I was HOOKED! PALM watch out, you have some SERIOUS competition and NO I'm not talking about the iPhone!!!!

does anyone know if Sprint will get an Adroid 2.0 device in near future?

Sprint has said via twitter that they will be updating the Hero to 2.1 in the first half of 2010. That is a big window, and hopefully it will come sooner rather than later; but knowing cell carriers and offical updates (pre excluded) it will probably be 6/30 before it is pushed out :-p

If you are talking about a new device with 2.0/2.1 out of the box, I don't believe there has been an offical announcement about one of those yet, but I could be wrong!

There isn't. Just that latest update and that's all from Sprint's neck of the woods.

I'm most interested in Android's notification system. Are notifications from 3rd party apps included in the pull down list?

I hate to say it, but having seen Motorola's recent and rumored lineups...

...I'm feeling Motorola was accidentally successful with their design of the Droid. It looks just different enough for it to be considered something unique and interesting, but, looking at what else they have out and coming, it's fairly obvious it just happened to end up that way.

Love to see the competition heating up. It's been a long time other than the iphone that this many phones and companies have stirred up the market. Now the tough part is deciding where to make the next purchase.

I'm really interested in Android phones, everything I've read about them have been interesting. Only one thing (besides being stuck in a contract on an old Nokia 6085... stuck on a 3-year-contract with a device I hate because I was in emergency need of a cellphone and had no money to get one that wasn't free... yeah, I'm a little bitter, sorry...) keeps me from buying one, and that is the worry about updating. Apps are one of the big draws, for me, for a smartphone. I've heard that many new apps on Android Market don't support the earlier OS versions, and at present there's no sign of Canadian providers updating their phones. That, to me, is a major concern for the future of the platform.

Well, ok, one other concern but I figure it'll get fixed at some point. I dislike that there's no paid apps for Canadians in the Android Market.

When my contract runs out and I can finally buy a new phone, or I decide to stay with Rogers and upgrade my current phone with a contract renewal, I want a phone that will last me the full contract. OS upgrades and a full market would definitely help with that.
