craigslist echo has different colored screens?

Hey there fellow echo'ers,

I used to own a kyocera echo, but due to the random crashes and poor battery life, I returned it within my 30 day and settled on a samsung epic 4G.

the epic was a good phone, but I just could not get myself to like it. 2 months later, I find myself craving the kyocera echo again, and a little research shows me that gingerbread (not gingerbrick) is finally out and working, and it improves battery/responsiveness/stability immensely.

So I went to craigslist and traded a nice fellow my epic 4g for his kyocera echo. I love the phone, and gingerbread *does* make it loveable again. I only have one problem - the bottom screen has a noticeably yellow tint, while the top one looks crisp and white. The top screen, however, has a faint white "line" going down the backlight where it appears brighter than the other whites.

Activation was no problem, so I am using this supposedly 2-3 month old phone clean and clear on my plan. Everything works wonderfully as expected, aside from the screen tint and issues. Do I have any way to get this echo exchanged at sprint for a proper, uniform colored echo (my first echo did not have this discoloration issue), considering I am not the original owner of this phone? I am not subscribed to any sort of TEP/insurance plan currently.

thanks everyone :)

You would need to sign up for the insurance most likely. I'm not sure how that would work since you just got it but if you had the insurance, on your original phone, you should be able to get it replaced, I think. Just ask I guess.

Xoom+Root = Perfect Match

thanks, castorshells. i'll see if i can add insurance to my line, before getting it exchanged. does the manufacturer's warranty not apply if you're not the original owner?

The manufacturers warranty should apply so long as it's under a year old (which every Echo is) but sprint's insurance should cover you so long as you don't tell them is has problems before hand

During all of August you can add insurance to any phone even if it is outside the 30 day window.

You should never be asked to purchase insurance or pay $50 at a Sprint store. I worked for Sprint for 3 years in customer service. The ECHO never shipped with different colored screens. One appears to be more blue & crisp, the other a nice kindle reader hue. But both together aren't a lot of fun, especially on the eyes. I have yet to find anything from Kyocera addressing this issue.

My first ECHO was fine, but it never updated. I was asked to pay the $50. Instead I activated an old non smart phone and set the ECHO aside for about a year. Then Sprint shut down their GSM towers, so I had to reactive the ECHO. It was then I was told I didn't have to pay the $50, because the updating issue was widespread and they might be successful updating via USB. They weren't able to update the phone, so they ordered me a new one. The new one had different colored screens, so they ordered me a replacement. The replacement phone was even worse, the LCD was failing too. The store rep asked for $50 and I hadn't even left the store yet. It was then they told me that, since the phone still worked, I would not be getting a new or replacement phone. They stated that all Kyoceras came with different colored screens, so tough luck. I actually had to call the police to get my second ECHO back, which was sitting on the counter, which they refused to return to me. They finally did. I've been a customer for 8 years. I'm out of contract, and have spent well over $14,000 dollars in the 8 years I've been with them. Therefor, I at least deserve an ECHO with two screens the same color, I don't care which one.

So, if anyone can find a press release or something definitive about why the screens are now two different colors, let us know. If you notice, the yellow is the unexposed screen, the left screen, so that would be the screen least replaced due to damage. It's also the screen that's attached to the actual phone, but not the screen that's exposed when in the closed position. All very strange.
