Crap Night Mode not in final N release?

You know... I bet you the actual feature is still there, but the option to toggle it got deprecated. So if you used it in prior previews, the entry in the quick settings will remain (since the upgrade tries to maintain your userdata wherever it can). But if you never touched it, it's gone for good (unless you can fuss with the settingsdb manually)
Spot on. Which is a bug in my opinion. But very sound reasoning.

I used the Night Mode Enabler app to enable this feature. It's free and doesn't require root or anything.

Here's the reddit thread on this.

I'm digging it. I would've loved to see system wide "dark" mode so that UI elements can be dark (like Settings menu).

Wow, amazing. It's back. LOVE IT. worked perfectly. Just make sure you watch the video that is in the app page. THANK YOU!

Excellent find.. Now I don't have to worry about waiting for a update or having to flash a DP when my phone comes in... Thank you

Awesome. It works. I even uninstalled the app and night mode toggle is still there.

Forget about night mode. I want a dark theme.

Well... you can get it.. but you'll have to work at it (a custom kernel that supports either the Layers or CyanogenMod theme engines and said themes). Google keeps dabbling into dark modes in the UI, but I think things just start to get messy... they've been trying to make the entire interface more consistent over the past few releases and tossing in a mode that, literally and figuratively, tosses the aesthetics on its head must not be worth the trouble.

I mean, I've played with a lot of the dark themes that are available with either Layers or CMTE and most of them make a mess of things.

That seems like a whole lot of complication to make white into black.

Is night mode a fade in as the day gets later (like twilight) or is it suddenly on?

Night mode enabler app sure took some fiddling with and finally a reboot to get the toggle but now I got it. This should be really nice.

My phone wasn't part of the betas and I side loaded the update. I think beta users got the setting to stick after they upgraded to RTM.

Mine didn't turn on automatically this evening, I had to hot the notification toggle. It's enabled in settings for time of day. Is it working for anyone?

I didn't see anywhere in Settings to enable that at a specific time; I only see the toggle in Quick Settings.

Well, it's not just that... Font colors have to change, other accent colors, etc. For those with modified phones that have theme engines, good dark themes are few and far between. It's a lot more complicated that you might think.
