Crazy colors under direct sunlight

When direct sunlight hits my Note 8, it doesn't just get brighter but the contrast suddenly pops dramatically making the icons and everything else look very unnatural. This goes away after a few seconds as soon as the sun doesn't hit the screen directly anymore. It's extremely noticeable. The brightness itself doesn't actually increase much, so this seems like a software bug or possibly defective device.

Does anybody else notice this issue?

I noticed this yesterday afternoon when I took a walk around my building at work. I thought it might have been because I had my sunglasses on, but when I took them off to have a better look, I had the same affect. I would think it's might be the sensor in Auto telling the screen to blowout the colors so they can be seen/noticed more? Just guessing though.
