Crazy long delay when accessing home screen

Unpredictably but frequently, when I press the home button, I see my (not live) wallpaper for up to 10 seconds before my apps/widgets are reloaded. It's as though the whole home process is rebooted. I've removed my widgets and that hasn't helped. I am using folders nowadays, and maybe that causes some delay -- but not all the time. I've uninstalled apps that would have anything to do with the home screen, to no avail. It happens less often right after I reboot, but a few hours later it starts up again. The main offender: exiting the browser.

Anyone else running into this? I think it's only been since the 2.1 update, and it's gotten worse over time. I'm running an unrooted Motorola Droid. This is a serious problem.

I did have the same problem but not as bad as you do when I had my droid going from browser to the home screen. I fixed mine by overclocking but since your not rooted you might want to take a look at some of your apps maybe some are causing your problem. When I used pure messenger widget mine seemed to be worse. You can also do a factory reset which will start your phone from scratch and you will have to download all your apps again. If you have paid apps from the market you can download them again with no charge a little work but it might help.
