Crazy that my Fortune 500 company doesn't allow corporate email on Android!

I just started working for a Fortune 500 company (50,000 employees) and I was surprised to learn that they don't allow corporate email on Android... only iOS! Supposedly this is due to "security" issues with Android. I don't buy it! Time for some hacking :-)

If you can, use your Android logic powers to explain to them how full of BS Android security issue claims are.

And if that doesn't work, I agree. Hacking ;)

I fail to understand why anyone would want work email on their personal phone. If they give me an iPhone, I'll use it and keep my own Android phone. If they want me to bring my own device, I'll say no thanks to work email on my phone.

Could you use a third-party app like Touchdown?

I agree on two devices, but I'd much rather have two androids. If BYO is an option, at least they could choose what they like to use.

I hear you but, I'm a one device guy. It is BYO. I've used corporate email on my personal cell and really like having it there... everything on one simple device. I definitely don't need to be lugging around two cell phones.

Not sure yet... I'm first gonna get all the proper settings they use for iOS and go from there.

Ask them to reimburse you for the cost of their preferred Apple device?

This doesn't surprise me at all. Companies were used to BB devices then started to migrate towards iPhone once BB started loose it's appeal. Android devices are starting to make way in this niche. However, it'll be some time before there's a larger acceptance of Android replacing BB as the corporate choice from a security standpoint. Apple products by nature are locked down, so this may also play into the thought that iPhone is safer than an Android device.

FYI If his company does any form of government contracting, this also maybe a requirement of them as part of the contract.

Also I would never recommend he finds a way to circumvent this policy, it might sound extreme, but for some companies this could cost you your job.

I agree. If the company will provide a second device or subsidize one for you then no problem. Don't circumvent the system and risk your job.

I was able to log into corporate email on my Android device while working as a gov't contractor... This new gig is with healthcare...and of course HIPAA, so I understand the scrutiny but I'm sure there's a right way.
