AT&T Galaxy S8 Crop to fit screen option no longer working for YouTube videos

All of a sudden today I realized that when watching YouTube videos in landscape mode, tapping the "crop to fit button" no longer did anything. I tried numerous videos and they all did the same thing. After reading a thread about the problem on XDA, the workaround was to go to the App setting for YouTube and uninstall the updates. Now the button works and the videos enlarge to fill the screen. Sooner or later the developers for YouTube (Google) and other apps will get their act together, but for now that's the solution.
Their is a thread about the problem on XDA where I found the solution:

Lately, when I watch YouTube videos in landscape mode, it goes to full screen and I get a message that video is automatically fitted to the full screen.

Mine now stay in the 16:9 format. I have to use the crop to fit button. Maybe there's a setting to have the videos default to fill the screen. At least I got the crop button to work.

Go to:

Settings->Display->Full screen apps

You can configure which apps go to full screen mode. For me YouTube is already enabled and I am unable to change the setting.

Mine is grayed out for YouTube and cannot be changed. I did go back and reinstall the updates for YouTube and the crop button works, but if I reboot the phone, the crop button either disappears or won't work and I have to start all over. I'll just deal with it I guess until Google decides to fix YouTube. I'm not holding my breath.

Hello I was going to start the thread about this lol.

I'm glad I am not the only one on earth with this problem.
It all started after I updated my S8 and S8 Plus (yes I have two phones) with Youtube ver. 12.27.53
Then I noticed that when I'm viewing it in landscape mode and hit the crop-to-fit button it will stretch the image vertically but not horizontally leaving both sides of my screen untouched. (on both phones)

From my experiment I found that this problem would only be occurred only when the Youtube ver. 12.27.53 is fully activated and the major indication is when I minimized the current vdo I'm viewing normally it would transformed into a small box of a screen on the corner right of the screen but with the latest version my vdo would transform into "a long bar" instead of a box and when this happen the problem will always occur.

There were also some circumstances that Youtube ver. 12.27.53 will not minimized into "a long bar" after update and the problem will not occur but as soon as this change into a new one (that long bar) the problem will occur and there's no going back unless I uninstall the Youtube to make it roll back into the stock version.

personally I think this is a major bug that comes with the new interface from Youtube.
I already notified Youtube via feedback and my friend who is inside the management circle of Samsung.

I hope they fix soon.

Thanks for your help and input, Randgrid. All we can do is wait for a fix. As noted, we can uninstall the updates for a temporary workaround.

whats the latest version? Version 12.29.57 still has crop to fit option on my s8+.
Yes, but when you press the button, does it actually stretch the video to fit, left to right in Landscape mode? I had to roll back to 12.05.53 in order for the button to work on my S8. AFAIK, the latest version does not work, at least for some of us.

OK, thanks. I'm on AT&T. It might be something the carrier did with a recent update.

I just wanna give you an update. I have been using the stock version of Youtube for a while to avoid that issue. I am having an oversea trip so I updated my Youtube to latest version then after I arrived at the destinaion country I changed my sim card to the local carrier and the issue have yet to occur.

I will testing it after I got back to my country in few days.
And I have also confirmed that those S8 and S8 Plus which I failed to replicate the issue in my country are not from the same carrier as mine.

Decided to try 12.29.57 again and now it's working, at least for now. Perhaps Samsung pushed a silent update, who knows?

I have confirmed that the issue has been fixed.
I am using the latest Youtube app on both S8 and S8 Plus and the issue is now gone.

*Version 12.36.56 of the YouTube app just got released on September 22 2017.

ERROR RESOLVED !!!!
Previously Youtube Has fit to screen button on right upper side of video by clicking in which we can adjust the screen. But after recent update that button disappeared.
But Youtube came with more interesting update. Now you can use your finger to zoom in or out to adjust screen.
